i have a bug and the original color doesnt look to be elm green.
elm green looks a little dark and my green seems to have more yellows in it.....
is there a lighter green for that year?
i check the technical portion in the paint and upholstery but no luck.
and ive been to paint places and found that the 1970's also had a green called poly green but i cant find and example.
and its killing me..... is there any way to get the og color from the vin? i tried calling vw but they said the vin is supposed to be 17 characters long.... _________________ 1970 Käfer |

ok so this is in the gas door the bottom darker green is the repaint where my painter used elm green from ppg or so he says.... it was only one coat so i could see it
i just dont get it.
and cant find anyother green that resembles it i thought for a second itw as willow green but then i saw examples and thought that is definetley not my color
and this green is EVERYWHERE i mean all the small spots where it makes me think its the og green.... the PO had repainted the car without taking anything off or anything and got a green that kinda looked like it. and the only green under that ugly paint was this green....
any help? maybe its just cause its one coat and no clear? _________________ 1970 Käfer |

Dirty metal plate? Have you checked it? It could be your production plate, which should tell you the paint color. |

I'll be honest-I don't know. I was going off the information here. I suppose if you're really worried about doing it all original, you could always get a birth certificate. I believe they have the paint color, though I'm not 100% sure. |

just below the rear window at the top of the package tray, under the carpet the VW tech who did the final assembly wrote the color in paint pen. If that is still there it will give you the true color name IF it hasn't been painted over. _________________ 1974-Body off custom w 1835 & 44mm Kads

Maybe an earlier year color, Peru Green?
Check your production month of your bug to see if it is an early month. |

If your car is a '70 then the original color was L60D Elm Green. Colors can sometimes fade, even if they are colored. Elm Green is a great color, I'd just have your painter mix up the original combination, or buy the original stuff from directly Glasurit http://www.glasurit.com
If you like the lighter, have him match that, but personally I like the darker Elm Green.

Very nice. My brother had a '71 SB in that green. Loved it. BTW, how much does a good painter charge for such a job these days? _________________ Every morning, Greggery drives his little red Volkswagen to the ugly part of town where they keep the government buildings. I guess they have to remove all the glass out to paint it right? Did they remove the fenders? I can't really tell, but it looks like they left them on and painted the fender beading. Just curious for when I get mine repainted. _________________ Every morning, Greggery drives his little red Volkswagen to the ugly part of town where they keep the government buildings.
