Been kinda lazy the last few days. I put the radiator in tonight. The fill is in the front behind the grill. Easy access. Didn't feel like playing the "burp" game. Spent about 2 hours at the wreckers looking for a radiator that would work. Finally found one. Came out a dodge dakota with a 3.9L engine. Since mine is 4.3L, it should do the job. Expansion tank is from a volvo. I should be able to run the SA grill, seems to be enough clearance. Still need to build the lower brackets and powder coat everything.
Fan housing is little too long so trimming of the upper and lower fan housing is necessary.
1/4" on each end is all that is needed. Now it fits right in.
Bolted on a couple brackets.
And now the fan fits perfect.
Now I just need to finish the upper brackets, make the lower brackets and plumb it.
Thanks. My goal as always is to try and keep the factory look with a little extra. I also like to utilize as many of the factory brackets that I can. The coolant pipes are the factory ones. I picked them up from a guy in seattle that was wrecking one out ten years ago. Got as much as I could. The best part is that all of the holes were already there, including the holes for the screws for the clamps.
A great build.
I've known these guys for some years now, and they continue to build new and crazy stuff all the time. The Vorsche Golf was a rattlecanned junkyard candidate formerly owned by some Juggalo / Jesse Pinkman type if I remember right, with all sorts of garbage parts stuck to it.
They even did this swap for me.

Thanks. That day would have been 2005. Here's a couple vids of it. Still have it.
Made a little progress. Using the original brackets, I decided to weld on a small plate to keep the rubber from squeezing into the groove. Also PC'd them.
Put in the rivetnuts and installed the lower brackets and PC'd fan housing.
Going to use this as my fan temp sensor since the radiator has no provisions for one.
The squirrel made this part his toilet so it all rusted.
Cleaned all the fuzzys left from the insulation off. Haven't decided yet as to how I want to insulate it.
Hasn't been this clean in ten years.

Still working on the 996 cluster electrical items. Almost finished.

Been looking for the fittings to mate with the vortec fuel lines and I finally found some. Now I don't have to halfass it. I still need to clean the center section of the van and undercoat it.
Finally got all of the hoses installed. 44' of 5/8 hose. Made a plate for the hoses to go through. The water cooled heater hose gasket is the wrong size and the diesel is too small.
I made my own brake brackets. Powder coated and installed.
Tore them apart and PC'd them. New parts ready to install.
The e-brake return spring is a pain to put on. This made it easier.
Was at picknpull a few weeks ago and picked up this. It came off of a late '80's early '90's chevy van. It was exactly the correct width. Perfect and only $14. And a class 5 to boot.
I told my son this was his project. So he spent about 4 hours today and came up with this.
Not too bad for his 3rd time welding.
All dressed up.
And the rest is in his head. He wants kind of a raw badass look.
I filled up the radiator last night and it was so nice to see water coming out of the heater connection at the manifold. No burping required.
The gas tank has 5 gallons in it and I need to hook up the cluster wiring and start it. Should be this week. Then the body work starts. I will roll it outside and give it a bath first. I'll get some pics of it on the ground then.

Yes I did get my "money pits" from GPI. Had them for 6 1/2 years now. Awesome dogs.
Money pits as in plural? Yeah, if my wife finds out we can have more than one greyhound in the camper, that would be bad news.
I got the male first. He was pretty dominant. But I guess if you are going to win races you have to be. Got the female about 6 months later and what a change. It was like love at first sight for those two. Made a huge difference in his demeaner. Best thing I ever did.

Thanks. The 4.3 is a bit chubby at 425 lbs, but the torque at 260 and hp at 200 makes up for it. I am not building a hot rod. My cuda with approx 500hp when finished will satisfy that. My goal is a dependable daily driver, dog hauler and occasional trailer hauler along with some camping here and there. I have a vanagon tent that needs to be used. I'm hoping with a little respect the trans should be ok. No smokey donuts.
The vortec has a proven track record of reliability and parts are plentiful and reasonably priced. Time will tell. The engine is 5 1/2" taller than the cover, but I think when you see what I have planned for that area you will be surprised. So far with the engine(73K miles), wiring harness, ecu, the starter and adapter, I am in it a whopping $850.

Nice. I try not to disappoint. Front brakes are stock 2 pot girling.
