I finaly started to rewire the westy this weekend. Took lots of pics, I think I have it sorted out except for that red thing. I'm thinking it flashes along with the hazards?

It sure looks like the hazzard light, but what is it doing there? I thought they were all mounted up on the dash between the gas gauge and the speedo. _________________ I will never lie, but sometimes the truth changes.

A 66 westy would have the lighted knob style flasher. Looks like you have one sitting on your dash. _________________ I don't mind eccentric people i just don't care for shit heads.

I thought it might flash along with the knob. Here is another pic. It doesn't say vw on it anywhere, no part number either.

This was yesterday, but it still counts, right?
I fired up the foundry that a friend gave me and melted a bunch of scrap aluminum and cast them into "biscuits" for future use.
Here it is in all its Oakie glory-
Here it is with the inside glowing cherry red-
Don't bite these biscuits!-

Forgive my biscuit ignorance... Do you use those to re-melt into repro parts- or for repair? Can you melt one and pour it into a deluxe bumper spear's scar? My mind's racing! _________________

I'm curious what it has to do with your bus. And this thread. _________________

hitest-I had a pile of scrap AL that I recast into those easy to handle biscuits. One could use it to repair a bumper spear but I think welding would be easier and more effective. I am planning on using them to remake a couple of parts for my bus and experiment with some ideas I and others have had.
j-dot-I just like making my own stuff.
cdennisg-see above. Just a teaser of things to come. _________________ Founding member of

That is really neat.
When casting aluminum, do you use a plaster cast?
I did some lost wax, plaster casting with lead when I was a kid.
Mostly for fishing lures.
Imagine us 9 year olds in the back yard with a charcoal fire melting up lead weights for our pleasure. As my Mom used to say "you all lived", when questioned about the dangerous stuff we used to do...
Keep us informed as to what parts you're cooking up. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

Transmission out and ready to bring to Pat at ITS in La Mesa (San Diego) for rebuild. I plan to do some heavy duty cleaning and degreasing of the area while things are cleared out so there won't be any more clumps of grease and dirt falling in my face while working under there! |

Started to strip the respray off my 61 SO 23. M coded dove blue so I wanted to see what is left of the original paint, so far so good. The upper half seems to have been resprayed beige gray at one time, I might just leave that if it's good all the way around ( look at the middle left of the pic and you can see it under the white I stripped). Using graffiti remover from Wally world. The "GREEN" shit from Homers doesn't work!
