i got mine from Ken at thebusco.com , think it was $5 plus shipping. You could also try CHris at bustedbus.com if Ken does not have it. I called Ken to ask about that part. He was very nice to deal with. He also got me some long lost heat ducting, NOS

Ok, so i go few thing done over the long weekend. I pulled rear tires and wire wheeled the drums, backing plates and some other rear suspension parts. Then treated all with marine clean, metal ready and POR-15. It looks better than the rusty old parts. Here are few pictures

I also went and got my battery, its a Interstate MT-47. The fit is tight and will have to grind just a little off the battery hold down off to make it perfect. You will notice battery is not hooked up as there no engine or tranny in yet.

suspension looks great! but one think to take note of is the paint on the drum. vw had a issue in the late 60's or early 70's with wheels coming loose. iirc the fix was to clean the paint off the mating surface of the drum. i will try to find the service bulletin. if you used spray paint on the drum i wouldn't think it would be an issue. POR is thick stuff.

i will try to find the bulletin....

hmmm. it was so rusty and ugly. Its POR 15 one coat. Maybe i will stop there with that coat and hope for the best. POR-15 is hard as nails so hopefully i will get good stable mateing on the wheel to the drum. Good info tho and am very interested in this. If anyone else has painted there drums and had issues please let me know.

or just take some sand paper to the area where the wheel mates with the drum....and get that coat a little thinner...

Now I'm sure that paint could be an issue, but my origanal drums were painted before I started. And a nice thick factory paint. I'm gonna keep close eye on things.

thank you, very appreciated. I can only take credit for how it looks and the quality German parts that i resourced for months to build it right. The true artist is my mechanic Mark Owner of Wolfsburg Autowerks in Boulder, CO Engine parts where balanced and he assembled everything personally with great care. No rookies touched the assembly!

It was blasted carefully then i used ceramic paint the usual color out of spray can. Napa auto parts. Hung it in the garage and gave it two coats.

blasted and powdercoated. I did 80% gloss but if i had to do it again would go for 60% gloss as it shows the fine scratchs in the sheen less and is closer to the OG tin sheen. thank you again, the tin i did twice as first time was rattle can and was not happy.

Today was a fun day. I was in the market for oil for my new engine and after posting a thread here on thesamba i decided to go with Brad Penn Oil. To my surprise when i went down to the dealer was that he had a restoration shop for so super nice relics (Bugatti)

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

So i got an eye full and my break-in Penn oil 30wt and some 20/50 for the other miles. Very exciting stop, if only i had a million bucks for one.

I then took trip to machine shop and had to have the battery hold down trimmed a bit to fit the new MT-47 interstate battery. Fits fine now just need to repaint the part again.

Then it was off to get temp tag so when engine goes in i can drive it for couple weeks before emmisions.

am hoping and praying there are no delays with install of engine this weekend Pray

i also got the rear break backing plate plugs today from busdepot. You better checked to make sure yours have not jumped off and dirt is getting into your drums. I was missing half of mine.
http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=113609163

I only have two more things i can or rather want to do before he goes off to mechanic and that install clutch cable and accelerator cable. Now to get this crippled ass a moving again. Boo hoo!
