|
|
I'm resurrecting a 914-6 from a bare shell. Just a little rust and most everything there except heat exchangers. Any help would be appreciated! I've looked at the aftermarket stuff and I'll go that route if I have to, but would like to have the original type if possible. _________________ 1990 VW Vanagon westy |

BB and GHL I believe have both stopped making replacement heater boxes. You are stuck either getting a good fab shop to repair what you have or source some good used ones$$.
Even rough 914-6 heater boxes are getting so hard to find, they are commanding very outrageous prices. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

Good call, I missed that one. Those look exactly like the old BB units. I had a set years back. Very good quality, they don't produce much heat. Enough to keep the windows clear and people warm. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

I've checked out those places and also found a shop in England that makes a pretty nice set...I've got time, there is so much else to do right now. We'll see what turns up! _________________ 1990 VW Vanagon westy |

That might not work to your favor (waiting). Back when I bought SS-BB heater boxes, they were $1500 shipped. Good used factory sets would run $1k not really needing any repair work.
Might not be a bad idea to snag a set from someone or some place and just let them sit in the garage until you are ready for them. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

I would buy a used set if I can find them! Not many around these days what with all the 914-4 to 6 conversions. _________________ 1990 VW Vanagon westy |
