I had this breather made from flatblack12345 who advertises here in the classifieds. I sent him this sketch and today he sent me the finished pics. It's super nice!
So the plan is to have the right valve cover and the stock breather go to the two inlets on the bottom, then the 5/8" outlet near the top will go the the exhaust evacuation. It will mount up under the deck on the right side, it will be tight but I had a good look at Dave's car and it will fit. The footprint is 4.5" cube, roughly 1.58 qts.

Where did the crankcase evac valve come from?
Interesting , i've been wondering how to vent my new stroker.
Do tell |
Supaninja's influence on that one.
The valve and adapter/stem both came from Jegs. I used the dual purpose one so that I could also hook up a wideband to the same connection just upstream of the muffler. Here are the links.

It doesn't draw a very strong vacuum using the thumb over end of the hose method, even at fairly high RPM. But it's enough that it will suck out any vapor and keep a slight vacuum on the case.
I decided to only do the R valve cover, it seems pretty common from what I've been reading. Can't wait to get it all installed. _________________ 69 Fastback Build (Doris) |

Thanks DONGKG!
W1K1 - I would think the pipe needs to be at an angle. If it was at a 90, the velocity of the exhaust over the end wouldn't have the same effect in drawing a vacuum. Well, that's what I think and I can't prove it. I've seen at least one exhaust setup with two bungs for both. Then you wouldn't need the one I have, just the weld in pipe with threads for the valve at the other end. I think that's what supaninja has.
In other news, I was called to stop by the body shop yesterday. My 'new' door fits worse than the one with the broken hinge. The gaps are just all off with the driver door. They'll fix it, they just wanted to show me first. Sucks... _________________ 69 Fastback Build (Doris) |

too bad - I know that the doors really suck big time. Experienced the exact same thing. Collected a couple of doors (allthough they are no longer easy available in Germany) before I found the best way to fix the problem: re-use the og door after a full resto of the sheetmetal which was quite wavey after a "professional" sand blasted the outer skin
I can exactly imagine your excitment to finally see the body in paint - 1 year ago I was at the same stage...
But, from what I read you did everything right by choosing this shop - I also can't wait to see Doris' gleaming, shiny body in all its fresh paint! _________________ 1966 Fastback "The Volksback"

The driver door is done. They had to shrink it quite a bit from the inside to get the waves out. I'm not sure of the process but it looks like a bunch of tack welds to the inside of the door panel. I think he said he used some sort of stud gun.
All the body work is done now and they had the roof, cowl, aprons, etc. all masked off to start painting the jambs and inside.
I finally decided on a color and you'll see some paint next week. PPG single stage.
In the meantime, I've been trying to get everything else bolt-on ready. Here's some of what I've been up to.
I think I'm done sandblasting now. Everything is now painted with either MS or SEM Hot Rod Black.
My fresh air boxes had some surface crust I sanded off. Then Bulldog, then painted (I forgot that picture, but will take one when I put them back in).
localboy style jig. I finally finished the vent wings today. Glad they are done, it's a big job rebuilding those. The driver side is right on, but the passenger seal is a little off. I think the mold used to make them didn't have a deep enough groove for the tabs on the wing frame. I looked at a bunch of pictures and they looked like they fit the same. But they're 99% done now. The felt channels I bought awhile ago were crappy quality. I ordered some new from WW (German) and they are much, much better; but we need 3 as they're too short. You can see where I had to glue in a smaller piece towards the bottom of the finished one.
This side project isn't done yet. I wanted to maintain a normal look of the mount with a modern DIN. I don't really like how the radio bezel fits when the mount is just dremeled out, so I went another way. The sides will get filled in.

Paint! L345 Light Grey.
In some of the pics it looks a little more greenish than it is; I think it's that big window in the shop right above the car.
More to come.
