Hi, I have an splitwindow bus with a 65 tranny I believe. it has the stock 1300cc motor in it. Currently it has the stock big cap distributor and stock pic28 manual choke carb. If i put dual carbs on it does anyone know if it will go any faster. Which carbs are a good set to get that fit the stock motor. Any other ways to make it faster without pulling the motor that works well. Do the upper cylinder oilers do anything to help it? thanks for any advice.

cheers

We never got buses with a 1300 here in the US. Are you sure that's what it is? Post pics of the engine especially were the intake manifold meets the head.

Cylinder oilers are not a power adder.

You could put a pic 30-1 on there and probably feel the difference let alone dual 34's or something.

Most HP for the money would be, 1600 pistons and cylinders, larger valve single port heads that will fit the bigger cylinders and then dual carbs Smile Pretty cheap HP.

Ok cool, i have a pic 30 carb i'll try that maybe that will give it the extra gas it needs with a single carb.
I'd like to try several dual carb setups also any ideas.
No I'm trying to add more speed or torque without adding new pistons and cylinders and heads.

I'd start with ratio rockers and a 019 distributor.
Cheap and easy.

It has the stock big cap 40hp style distributor in there. what is the differnece between that and the 019. won't the carb need vacuum to work?

previously it had a 009 in it and that drove like crap.

I use these CB rockers the most. http://cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=92
Cheap and high quality. 1:25's will be the easiest for you. You could go 1.4 but it will require shorter pushrods.
The 019 is a hotter curved distributor. The 009's weren't made for variable RPM's so they don't perform as well as others do in most applications.
You could also go with a Pertronix Billet which I've had good luck with. I sell them as well but I'd go with the 019 myself unless you were looking specifically for an electronic ignition.

We still don't even know for sure what engine you have. You say it's the stock 1300, but those buses never came with a 1300.

If it is a 1200 40hp those 1.25 or 1.4 ratio rockers and other hoopla is going to be a waste of money. Post a picture as I said before so we know what you have and can make intelligent recommendations.

How do you know it's a 1300?

I have stacks of rockers in a pile too. they are all stock.

goto any parts website and search 1.25 rockers and there will be a pic there of them.

you must have edited your last reply.

I doubt it. A 1300 came stock with a 30 PICT-1, so it can't be "back to original components" as you claim. However, the 1500s that came on 1963-1965 buses did have 28 PICT carbs. Does it have an F0 engine code?

Does it still drive fine? I don't know if the 30/31 has the right vacuum signal for that distributor.

i'm fairly certain that the combination of that carb and the distributor and those large manifold ports in theory don't match together but they seem to work ok..knock on wood...
I'm sure dual carbs is the way to go to get nmore speed just trying to figure out what dual carbs to go with..as that was the beginning of this thread..although a square bowl carb may make it faster..
