I have enjoyed your travels so far. Hope to see you for tea if you make it to the central coast. By the way, how is the bus treating you? |
I have noticed that it takes several hours for a comment to appear in the blog. It says it is waiting for approval. Perhaps Martin has to "approve" the post and we know that he is rather busy piloting an antique van around in the desert turbulence. |

Thank the Lord that you have made it to civilization. (Victorville is civilized, isn't it?).
Off to the blog now to learn how it took you 3 days to travel 200 miles across the desert. |

Take California highway 1 up the coast from Santa Barbara north through Big Sur and Monterrey to San Francisco. You may already be too late to book camping or maybe even motel for anything between Cambria and Carmel, though-- check the California state park/National Park website for reservations if you want to camp. It's a beautiful drive if you take your time, but it's popular so reservations are recommended. Also make sure it isn't closed from landslides (common) before you head out.

Thanks KTPhil, will head your advice.
Another question !!! - Anybody know were i could possible get a pair of 68 doors between LA and San Francisco before the 5th !!
I had a closer look yesterday at the doors that we have been carrying around with us for the 68 restoration back home - and i dont think they are the correct year !!
I know its unlikely that we will find anything at this short notice but worth asking !! Off to the coast now (with maybe a quick stop by brothers VW on the way ) |

If you do make it to Santa Monica and want to stay in a clean hotel walking distance from the beach and pier check out http://www.seashoremotel.com/Rates.htm
I stayed there on my trip and loved the area and the room was comfortable and clean. It wasn't a bad deal considering the location. _________________ 1978 Delux Campmobile

| Martin, I have just begun to strip a 71 Wesfalia. I have not touched any of the top mechanism ,yet. Just a FYI. Hopefully you read this before going to a shop and getting the treatment. Cheers |

Hi Zelten thanks for the motel hint - If the weather holds we are going to try and camp from now on, but its always nice to have a backup. Cheers
KTPhil, thanks, i will try the chap in Ventura - he is right on our route as well which is good.
Thanks Ned. The weather was too bad to have a detailed inspection of the pop top mechanism yesterday. All i know so far is that the front passenger side corner can be lifted up at least 6" with the top closed. The sun is out this morning so we can have a look at the problem and change the fuel filter !
By the way, we are hoping to cover about 100 miles a day from now on so hopefully see you for that cuppa Tomorrow or Thursday.
Cheers Martin |
