It's my fault for making 3 orders from them. It's my ignorance that I have spent $500 with them, and thought 7-10 day UPS was legit. I placed an order on October 11th (this is my 3rd and final order from this damn place).... So I placed it on Tueesday the 11th, and I am not kidding, 17 arrival and departure scans on the shipping tracker. It will get here Tuesday. Folks, that's 2 weeks from order to door. I ordered a part from mofoco, and not only did it take 3 days, it was very neatly packed. This is the 3rd order from CIP1 in the last 2 months, spending $500+. Each order has been 15-17 departure/Arrival scans and takes 2 weeks to get the part on rape shipping prices... They make a killing on slow shipping. No more CIP1 for me folks....

Sounds like you have a problem with UPS.
What does the UPS site say for delivery time estimates to go from one corner of the continent to almost the other?

Well, it doesn't help that CIP1 takes 3-4 days ALWAYS to get parts out the door... But no, UPS is always on time. It's just that CIP1 charges rediculous shipping and uses the slowest method ups offers. Granted I choose the cheaper shipping ( $18 vs $56 for highest)... They are stealing money on the shipping side. I called a ups store 10 miles from their location and they said they would pick up the parts, box them, and ups them for $16! So, cip1 is stealing money on shipping...

$2 is "stealing"?

You should try CB Performance. They mark up shipping by 100%.

$2x thousands of suckers like me who believed 7-10 day shipping! Yeah...
It's just a crappy way to do business. Force a high shipping rate, and under deliver. That's all...

having shipped many things at the UPS store, I assure you they would not pickup, box and ship anything across country for a mere 16 dollars.... that said, find a vw shop closer... you will pay more for the parts, but you will support the local guy, and no, or less, shipping which will make you happy... it hasn't been too long ago that ordering parts from across the country(I'm in Va) took about four weeks to get and shipping was a large portion of the total cost.... most folks don't remember those days...

Consider that shipping charges may include packing materials and potentially extra employee hours. Nobody's "stealing" your money up-charging for shipping.

I know I'm making too big of a deal about this, but it's the principle of it... You offer a customer high shipping, very high shipping or ultra high shipping...ok. No problem. I choose your lowest, which is overpriced. You say it's 7-10 delivery... Fine... But when you have to order the parts, or are just that late getting them out the door, that's my problem. I pay for parts to arrive when you say they will, not 7 days later... Over and over. I tried twice to give them my business , not after 3-14 day shipping deals. If they would just get my damn parts to me within 7 days(5 biz days), I'd still be a customer.... But I'm not going to pay $23 to have a shift bushing sent via 3 day ground when there are other companies who deliver on their word. I don't know mofoco from Adam, but I ordered parts 4 days after this CIP1 order, and I got them... I'm still waiting on my order from October 11th..... And non of it was backordered!!

it does one well to read internet sites and such that you plan to do business with.... according to CIP1 on their "helpful hints" section, you receiving your order on tuesday the 25th meets their definition of the 7-10 day shipping(business days)... as usual, if you are unhappy with business practices, how long it takes them to get it out the door, customer service, etc, there are plenty of vendors out there.... check this feedback section of this site for vendors you plan to do business with, it can give you ideas of problems you may encounter....

Click the "My Account / Order Status" link at the top right hand side of our site to check your orders status. Once your order has been received and sent to our warehouse for picking & packaging, the ORDER STATUS will show as PENDING. All orders remain as PENDING until 24 hours after United Parcel Service, UPS (or other carrier) has picked up your shipment. All tracking numbers are updated to your account information well after your order has left our warehouse. Please allow 2-3 business days for your ORDER STATUS to show this updated information.
About BUSINESS DAYS!
This is a mail-order, web-order industry standard. All shipping companies (FED-EX, UPS, USPS, DHL etc.) use Monday thru Friday as their standard 5 day week - OTHERWISE KNOW AS BUSINESS DAYS.
Most of our shipping options show an approximate number of Business days that your order should take to arrive at your door. This is only an estimate and is not guaranteed. Business days refer to weekdays (Monday thru Friday) NOT INCLUDING Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. So when calculating the number of days your order should take to arrive, DO NOT INCLUDE the day you placed the order, weekends and holidays. To calculate your approximate order arrival date, Consider the first BUSINESS DAY after you have placed your order as day 1, then add the approximate number of business days suggested by the shipping option you selected, remembering not to include any weekend days or Holidays. This should give you a very reliable estimated arrival date for your order.

when dealing with internet/mail order, I've found "business days" to be pretty universal.... there is "fine print" everywhere.... I have dealt with *many* vendors over the years, I have my favorites and use them based on my needs... some are quicker turn around than others, and some are sometimes the only choice.... I've ordered from CIP in the past, when necessary.... no complaints, but my expectations on speed are very low... my vw's are not daily drivers, nor do I depend on them... time is not top priority to me...

They're in Canada so USPS is out of the question. A PMB in Blaine, Washington (3000 ft from the border) does not mean they are a US company. Don't let their name fool you - they are a Canadian company.

Then order your parts from a US-based company - most of them only charge $8-$10 to ship smaller orders plus you'll get it faster and keep your money in the US.

You are exactly right, it took exactly 6 days on the last order to get from their shop til the departure scan in Washington state, and 4 days to leave their place after my order... I have a lot of Canadian friends, but I'm done ranting about these Canidiots....

I've only had to deal with CIP cutomer service once and it was a while ago now, but it still bugs me so I thought I'd post it up here. The short version is they sent me the wrong headliner and wouldn't return or exchange it since I didn't have the original box -- they sent it folded up and in the box with my other parts. Here is their response:

Hi Bob please check the headliner box for the "TMI" label and see if the part# is the same. Odd #s (3111, 3313, 3415) are without sunroof and even #s(3112, 3314, 3416) are with sunroof.

Gary.

Then me:

Hi Gary, I don't have a 'TMI' box for the headliner. The seat upholstery came in a TMI box, but the headliner was folded and packaged with the other items I had ordered in a plain box. I checked the headliner itself for a part # and could not find one. I can send a picture if that helps, but I'm certain it is for a sunroof model. My receipt shows T20-3111-44 which, as you indicated should be for "without sunroof" ie 3111.

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Bob.

Then me again:

Hi Gary, still waiting to hear from you. Wondering if I should just re-order the headliner and return the one I've got in the box the new one comes in. Please let me know what my options are, I'm kinda stuck here without windows in my car!

Bob.

Then he asked for pictures, which I sent.

Hi Gary,
Here are a few pics as requested of the headliner I received sewn for 5 bows, with large spacing between the first two (sunroof model). Thank you for your help in the matter, I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Bob.

...and their final response:

Hi Bob I have checked stock on hand and they are 6 bow pocket versions. You can re-order with confidence you will get the correct headliner. Without the original box though the owner says we can’t really return the headliner. What he was willing to do is give you a deal on the replacement if you like. Our wholesale cost on these kits is $69.66 this would be what we could offer a new headliner at.

Let me know

Gary.

I did not want to order a second one from them and I had a bunch of other parts in my Wish List so I decided to order from another vendor and have since been ordering most of my parts from BD. I still buy from CIP, but not with the same confidence. If you need a headliner for a Squareback with sunroof, you can check my classified ad.

My friend has a 70 Beetle with 1600 DP in it. He recently got some money after a car wreck and wanted a 2-barrel carb. After looking around we found the cheapest at california import parts (CIP1), a EMPI progressive carb kit. I also recommended he got a flamethrower SVDA dizzy and coil. I wasn't sure if the EMPI carb had the ported vacuum fitting to run a vacuum advance , so I called CIP1 and they specified to had the vacuum port I needed next to the mixture screw.
Well when we received it in the mail I noticed that the so called ported vacuum fitting was blank and looked like you had to drill through the tip of the nipple to use that vacuum port. I called back and ended up talking to Gary and he assured me all I had to do is drill through the very tip of the nipple. After drilling half way through I ended up pulling it out with wise grips to find out the carb wasn't drilled to support a ported vacuum fitting.

I was mad!Mad I called them back and talked to Gary again and he told me the direct opposite and that I was to use the non ported vacuum connection. I told him that would not work for the vacuum advance because it pulls vacuum at idle. He got mad and told me he had 30 years experience and to use that vacuum port(moron!) I asked why he had told me the other earlier and his reply was "oh sorry I was wrong" 30 years experience my butt!

I called Socal import and spoke to someone there and they told me that EMPI progressive so not made to be used with the vacuum advance dizzy Ok!? Does this mean CIP1 told me what I wanted to hear so I would buy from them ? Also for some reason the choke electrical spade hits the dog house! why waht do they expect me to do hammer on the dog house to make clearence? Direct bolt on my BUTT!!Mad

Well - have been buying for years and just got a few recent orders. I had one part that I wasnt real happy with that required a little rework - no biggy - But I emailed them with a heads up. I have received 2 emails today from a guy there that is actually pulling all of their stock and checking each piece to make sure there are no problems for other customers. They obviously had offered to replace it, but it was easy enough to fix.

I dont know how you folk have all these problems - I have probably spent at least 10K with them over the last 5 years and have a lot fewer problem with them than most other vendors.

Same here. I have ordered hundreds of parts from Cip1 and never had a major problem. They ARE pretty slow on shipping, but if I am in a hurry I get the part locally.

Spent many thousands over the years and had only one problem. Received a broken signal switch. E-mailed a picture and was sent another. Didn't have to send back the broke one. Jeff

A lot of the shipping issues have to do with getting held up in customs. I have had stuff breeze through and other stuff sit for 5 days before it clears. Pretty much out of their control. I had that on my order thats on the way now - CIP1 is trying to work with them to get stuff through faster.

Cip1 is the only vendor I know of that has comparable prices, quality and will still ship smaller items for free on orders over $99. I live in mid east coast florida. Shipping from just about any vendor to me is expensive. I just think that the people losing their minds over a couple $ shipping or waiting a couple days should remember that before the internet made all of that ranting so easy, it could take a month to get a part through mail order. And if you lived in rural areas you may drive 40 or 50 miles to the nearest terminal for your larger parts. I support the local guys when I can. Problem is their mark up may be a lot more than a couple $. I have heard a lot of people preach mid america and others, and after oredering from them I still paid more for shipping and got empi on parts they listed as OEM quality. Unless we live in CA or AZ we take what we can get and we should be lucky there is still such a large market/aftermarket for our beloved little cars.
