I like the idea of taking the drum off and being able to soak the threads. Hopefully it will come off with no problem. I'll do that first anyway then figure out my next move. Thank you

Jodybug. Remember when you post on here that there are people who will study your photo's and try to find something wrong with ANYTHING that shows and call you on it, even when it has nothing at all to do with your subject matter. They are insecure and enjoy pointing out other guys mistakes. It soothes their pathetic ego's... Jesus Christ! You've just stated that you can't get the freakin wheels off, and someone is crying about the bearings!

who said anything about mistakes? i was pointing out a mechanical defect that likely would not have been noticed by a newbie. ever had a front wheel bearing seize and lock the wheel at speed? spinning out, flipping the car over, or a head-on collision can result. this is serious stuff.

anyways, if he took offense to my comment, i'm sure he can speak for himself. unless of course you are his paid spokesman? or lover? on the subject of soothing pathetic ego's, you sure felt the need to comment and make your voice heard... Rolling Eyes

Just to make things clear: When you post replies like "How did you get 'STUCK WITH THAT', or "I HOPE YOU GOT A GREAT DEAL ON THAT CAR", implies that the poster is some how not as smart as you. We do not come on here asking questions just to be subject to some smart-ass replies that include your answer and some off-subject jab that showcases your intelligence or lack there of. Since you are calling me on my wording, again, not the subject, "mistakes" refers to the implied dumb choice that the poster has made for buying/driving a VW with certain problems. Kind Sir, my ego is not in question, however I think that the poster of the simple question agrees with me. Having my voice heard is not as important to me as it seems to be to you. My only intent is to warn a poster that sometimes our questions are answered with insults by some know-it-all, so GET F***ED by your "lover" or "spokesman" if he is ready for a lousey f**K, with off subject criticisim. back to the topic. I have a wheel lug removal kit that is reverse spiral shaped inside. They will remove any size and damaged lugs. would also work on locks. Autozone and discount auto parts will loan out the sets so you don't have to buy them. I think Napa has them too.

guess you don't understand how the internet works then, do you. it's ok, it's complicated, you wouldn't understand. here's a hint: it's a public forum, you get replies whether you like it or not. be a big boy, grow some thicker skin, no need to go crying to mama after every post you misinterpret as being "offensive". do you really think the op appreciates you crapping all over his thread like this? Rolling Eyes move along son.

to the op: if you want to fix this with minimal fuss, take the drum off, then take the wheel/drum to a machine shop. they can weld a large nut to the keyed lug and then you twist it right off. very easy. i bet they don't charge more than 10 bucks or so for that. life is short, no need to waste days or weeks of it fighting with a rusty bolt.

Thanks to all that took the time to help me out with there ideas and experience.
I have not gotten back to the lug nut issue yet. I've been building a couple of rotisseries. One for the body shell and one for the chassis. I built the one for the chassis out of two engine stands and that was a quick build and worked out great, but the one for the body shell I had to build from scratch. Got that one all welded up today and the casters installed. I will mount the shell tomorrow.
After hearing that Auto Zone my loan out a set of the tools needed to get the locking lug nut off I will go down tomorrow to get it.
I took the drum off with the wheel and sprayed down the lug nut threads from the inside with wd-40 and some other stuff I had.

"The wheel bearings had grease and were fine"
