I am doing a complete seal replacement on the tank. The inside of the tank looks to be painted with something that has over time started to bubble and peal. There are a few flakes of the paint or whatever floating around the inside of the tank.

What now? What do I use to seal the tank or do I just blow out the tank removing the dust dirt and flakes let it go?

No really, If you have loose flakes in the tank they are really hard to get clean. I don't even think it is worth the time. If you decide you have more time than money, make sure you put a filter in front of your expensive fuel pump to get the flakes that you missed while trying to clean your 20 year old tank. The flakes can ruin the fuel pump if they become excessive.

Here is the link, if you care.

Buying a new tank is piece of mind.
I have replaced a few "sealed" tanks in my day.
They all were clogged up.

You have a few choices.

- Least evil is to buy a new tank.
- Have a radiator shop boil it out and hope they get it all.
- http://www.gastankrenu.com is GREAT but will cost twice as much as a new tank!

- DO NOT TRY TO SLOSH THE TANK YOURSELF. All that nonsense with BBQs and what not are for the amateur with more time than brains. I would not trust that solution.

Buy a new one! Your time is valuable also and you can't be sure of the results when you try to seal one. I got one from the Cafe, but I renewed the whole fuel and cooling system at the same time while the engine was out.
Keep in mind, there is a plastic screen in the tank, keep that in mind before you dump some kind of acid in there.

If it ain't broke...

There are 3 screens (4 if you have a pre-pump filter) the fuel goes through. Something like a paint flake won't get very far. If the inside has loose rust though, replace it.

I've had the screen on the fuel pump become clogged with rust, for peace of mind you could drop the pump and spray carb cleaner from out to in and see what comes out.

" All that nonsense with BBQs and what not are for the amateur with more time than brains. I would not trust that solution" What is this??

Thanks for all the suggestions, I had just a couple of paint flakes and used the neighbors air compressor to try to blow them out. not sure how successful that was. I guess I will find out in time. I will be keeping a couple of extra Fuel Filters on board for emergency sake.
