Quick background on this bug. My Dad hit a jackpot when I was 16 and bought me this 69 bug. It was my first car ever and I've held on to it since. I am 37 years old now, so I've had this bug longer than I haven't had it.

I've been wanting to restore it for along time, just never got to it. Looking forward to this long awaited journey. I will post a picture as soon as I find somewhere to post.

I'll be removing fenders and getting everything ready to remove the body and start working on the pan. I'll post more pics as I go.

Hey, welcome, it's disturbing how much your story maches my own. Right down to your age when you bought the car and now, and the year of the car. Freaky man.

I tried to post a pic, but it isn't showing in the post so I just added the link.

Some of the stuff that I plan on doing is lowering with all airkewld products, a watsons street works wiring harness, nice wheels and tires and a very custom interior.

The bug right now has a 1776 in it, single Weber 44 carb. It runs right now and has been registered and insured for ever.

Thanks alot, right now I'm doing it all from my phone so it's kind of a pain in the ass. I'm going to have my Mom dig out some old pics from when I got it and I'll post them as well.

Forgot to mention, some of the mods that are already done on the car are a aftermarket sun roof, shaved front turn signals and 1 piece windows, which I hate.

Well, today I took out all of the interior, carpet kit and got everything put up in the attic. It really sucks doing this while not having a garage. My wife will get fed up with a project car interrupting our entertaining backyard. Also got all the tires taken off and tomorrow, the fenders are coming off. I'm getting this thing ready to remove the body from the pan.

This is one tangled mess. I'll probably be ordering the Watson's Streetworks Harness this week.

You got a good start, keep posting pics to this thread to show progress. I'm another '69'er so keep up the good work.

Got a '68 here, but our Bugs are very similar. Welcome (just joined myself) and I look forward to your restoration.

Did it come with no dashpad or did you decide to remove it? Always interested in that for my 69.

It did have a dash pad and I removed it. I've always had intentions of getting a new dash pad, but I really like the clean look. I am going to be welding everything up and smoothing it up completely. I may even put the stereo in the glove box so everything is hidden.

Over the last 2 days, I've removed all the bumpers and fenders. Fenders went relatively smooth until the last two bolts had to be cut off. I'm getting really excited about this project. Here are my latest pics.

My wife hasn't seen my fender storage system yet. It's in the dog pen, so hopefully she's not upset. I think it's a great idea.

She should like that more than keeping them in the house.

Nice bug, gotta love them '69's!
Are those blue dot in the tail lights?

Yes, they are blue dots, the same ones that you use to see on all the hot rods. I'm going to put 67 tail lights on with the LED lights from Airkewld though.

I've got a couple of set of them, thinking about putting some in mine when I get it to that point.

How much noise does that heat blower make?

Blower is actually pretty quiet and when it's on, it practically catches your feet on fire.

Nice bug.A thread worth keeping an eye on.We're on the same stage of restoration.I am about to remove the body and chassis too.Is that a pop up sunroof? I have one.But it doesn't fit.The PO cut a hole on the roof.I wouldn't mind buying a sunroof that doesn't pop up.Just want something to cover that damn hole.

Good luck. Very Happy
