Since there has been information in other threads about the first 1000 winning Meyers Manx.
I am posting pictures of the replica that was built before finding the original.
These are pictures I took when visiting the Reno Car Museum in Reno Nevada a little over a year ago.
The museum has many cars that were part of the Bill Harrah's collection and a section that has many race cars including several from off road racing.
Well worth the time to visit.

Those are Armstrong Norsemans, you can see the As molded into the crown of the side walls. They were often used by buggies in the rear with Gates Commandos up front.
Dick Cepek sells them now but has changed the A to DC

That video is so Boss. I especially love the end, around the 6:30 mark. You see #10, Bruce, and the crew, goofing off in the dunes. Only if they knew how valuable and important those cars would become. Not that it would change how they drove them...knowing those guys.
The thing that amazes me, is after getting beat to death racing 1000 miles to La Paz, they had to use the same racecars as their way to get home. And home was over a 1000 away at that point. True Gladiators.

I saw that buggy a couple years ago but I was sick and hung over when I went through that museum.
I'll be there Wednesday for three days and will try to go through it again on Friday since I have to kill time till 2:00 pm when my flight leaves.
I liked the Copper car that was there.

I looked at my pictures again and did not find any more of the Bronco.
It has been over a year and need to go for another visit to the museum again, I will see if it is still there.

I just signed up because a buddy of mine picked up an amazing street rail... and I found this thread.
Figured I'd give some credit to my brother, Richard Brown, who was commissioned to build it and owns that replica in the Reno museum.
I actually recreated all of the graphics/decals and it was a pain to get them perfect using only old videos for some of them.
I'll look and see if I still have any of the digitized footage of the original car and post it up.
Some of the original designers also were involved to put together custom parts like the cover and stuff.
Was there the 6pack of original mexican beer in it?
My brother is a maniac for crazy details sometimes!
I'm actually going to see it for the first time in the museum in April... excited

I don't know about the beer, I can't remember if I did see it.
Knowing that your Brother Richard owns this buggy, I was not going to use his name in the post as to respect his privacy.
It really is a great recreation of piece of history that was there in the beginning of off road racing.
Without the Meyers Manx who is to say if there would be such a thing as off roading as we know it today. _________________ Joseph

Hey Joeseph,
thanks for the kind words about the #10 recreation. And also thanks for your restraint keeping my name out of it. It's not really a secret, but I do feel that the car is really the subject of the story and not myself.
I didn't realize my brother was going to post that, but it doesn't surprise me. He is always telling me I need to share more stories about my dune buggy escapades and findings. I'm just a little too self-conscience to post forum topics where I just talk about myself and "what I did today". There's enough guy's on the Samba doing that already.
But before I'm guilty of my own accusations, a little news about the #10 replica
For those concerned, there will be a documentary made about the NORRA Mexican 1000 race. It will be from the same people who did the documentary "From Dust To Glory". From the beginning history, to the recent Mexican 1000 revival. The filming will take place during the 3rd annual Mexican 1000 rally happening in April. Due to the original #10 racer still going through restoration, it won't be ready for the film. Instead, the #10 replica will be pulled out of the Museum in Reno and utilized. The car will be sent to Jim Chamberlain's dune buggy shop in Oceanside first to get tuned up and be thoroughly gone through. For those who may not know, Jim built the original Manx that won the race in 1967. After it receives his blessing, it will then go to Baja, along with Old Red, to be part of the film. All the details haven't been worked out yet, but Vic Wilson (who won the 1st Mexican 1000 in the original #10 Meyers Manx) will be driving it across the finish line at the end of the 1000 miles. Meyers Manx history being made. Quite exciting.

Richard, I spoke with Jim C. last night about his shop and he going to the NORRA event with the #10 replica buggy. I told Jim that if he wanted I would drive to Reno and pick up the Manx and he could pick it up at my house. It would save him about 5 hours of total drive time.

Jim getting it from your house would be great! I would be a little worried about Jim's safety though, being in such a bad neighborhood. Are the police still staying away from that area?
Bruce is involved a little with the transport too. The 4 of us need to talk about the logistics.
you need to get in on the documentary with one of your racing Burro's.
and if Nelson's listening...that Jack Allison racing Tow'd would be great there too. If it isn't ready yet, get it going for the 50th anniversary of the race in 2017. That should be a BIG celebration.
