60 Sedan, bought new Edgar Meyer VW Augsburg Germany
Sportwagen Zentrum Augsburg
Edgar Meyer Sportwagenzentrum GmbH Dornierstraße 12
86343 Königsbrunn, Germany
08231 96050 <<and there still there!!
April 1960 (tourist delivery) brought back to J. Morrison better cars inc. Valley Stream NY orig owner moved to Colorado 1972' or so, orig owner passed on in early 2000, April 2000 second owner bought it, enjoyed it untill he sold to me this past April 2011 with all the docs, reciepts ect... and theres tons of it!!
Auto Zone sits on the property now where the dealer was, at least its car related on the same spot,,,
funny thing car only changed hands 3 times but within 5 days of its anniversary in the month of April each time, how cool is that!
my son and I are planning to attend the next Bad Camberg show and going to ship the car over to Germany to drive, tour the country and go back to the dealer where it came from, spend a few weeks in Europe with the car and then ship it back home, its a long way off, and its a daunting feat, but would make a very cool trip he will remember for a lifetime

I'd be interested to know what happened to University VW in Fort Worth, Texas. It's not there anymore, and trying to google the history of a car dealership just gives too many wrong links. _________________ Fastback owner and unrepentant

Nerfer,
They slowly died away. I think the dealer in that location now also sells Porsche. Their store front is on White Settlement Rd 1/2 block from University Blvd.. Not sure if University VW was actually on University Blvd. or not. The university VW license plate frame you have is hard to find now. Close friend here in Dallas looked for the longest to find one and finally found one to buy. His '63 was bought by his dad there in Feb '64.
Still in the family.
Only one dealer in Dallas left that still has the same location, but now under a different name.

My '63 was purchased new at Capital Volkswagen in Boise, ID- spent it's whole life 20 miles west garaged on a Nampa farm, and since 1998, as 2nd owner of this car- it's lived it's life exactly halfway between those two towns. _________________

My 1985 Club Joker Westy was built on 26 March, 1985, in Hannover, Germany. It was delivered to a VW dealer in Wunsdorf, which, at the time, was a Soviet Army Base.
In 1992, it was registered on base in Kaiserslautern, then registered on base in Grafenvoehr in 2000, and abandoned in an impound lot in Illesheim in 2005. Bought by me through MWR Stripping Yard in Ansbach, Germany in 2010. _________________ 1985 Westy 'Club Joker' Euro Spec. 1.9L (Domo)

My '57 was shipped to NY, spent most of its life in Minneapolis, MN and then I purchased it in Sioux Falls, SD and trailered it back to the east cost to Kent Island, MD. _________________ My '57 build:

And how did you find all of that out? You researched it? (If so, there's some genealogists that would like your skills). _________________ Fastback owner and unrepentant

The Birth date and original delivery location come from the 'M' plate decoder page, and the rest was a VIN search at Vehicle Reg on base (the clerk happens to be a friend of mine...).

My '64 Sunroof was bought new from Leroy Cannon Motors in Greenville SC. The original owners lived in Charleston and bought it while they were in the process of moving to Greenville. They kept it until the 90's when they sold it to a VW mechanic, who sold it to the guy we bought it from. The dealership was torn down and a K-Mart/shopping center was built. The '64 now lives in Anderson/Belton SC but makes it's way back "home" every now and then.

1965 og Bahama Blue paint purchased new at Leroy Cannon Motors in Greenville SC. Was parked in a lean to shed in Easley SC until I found it. Odometer reads 49xxx which I believe is correct. I paid $100 for it ten years ago.. _________________ 1956 Horizon blue sedan

They are still in business...
The car currently resides in Irvine, CA. |
Update:
Speedway Motors was sold in January 2012. Roy Passmore, Bruce Passmore's son, finally sold out. Volkswagen, Porsche & Audi wanted each brand under their own roof. Roy fought it for a long time, but finally could not hold it off any longer. At 70 years old, the amount of investment required for such an undertaking was too high, and the length of time until you start to see a return on that investment is too long. So he decided to bow out. The dealership is now owned by a dealer group that now has dealerships for VW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Mini, Sprinter, Smart, and a Subaru dealership on Vancouver Island. End of an era. So all your Speedway Motors paraphernalia just got more valuable! _________________ Live and learn. Or die stupid. |

62 Beryl Green beetle built Oct. 22 1961.
Shipped to the Port of San Francisco then delivered down the pennisula to
Dave Rasmussen VW in Burlingame.
Sold on Dec 21 1961.
I bought it after seeing it parked at a gas station in Redwood City back in '93,
less than 10 miles from where it was first sold.
It still had the black plates on it and the OG dealer frame on the deck lid.
There is a car dealer at the old Dave Rasmussen location, but unfortunately not a VW dealer. I checked it out on google earth, it's been updated a little but it's got the same layout and buildings. I'd like to take it there some day for a photo op.

| My '74 beetle was delivered to Veale Volkswagen in Santa Rosa, Ca. It was later traded in on another car at Torvick Datsun. My mom's neighbor growing up bought the car from Torvick in 1975ish and drove it for about a year but couldnt keep up on the payments, so my mom took the car over and drove it till about 1991. I now have it, but it hasnt been on the road since 2003. |
