So I got to business on the seat frames. hit them with a wire wheel, hand sanded, and then primed.

Also over lunch today I decided it was time to venture out beyond the neighborhood, and not just for gas. I headed to the docks, since I figured a MidWest car probably hasn't seen too much of that. Naturally I took some pics because I thought it was a cool photo opp.

It's amazing how the color change's in the different lighting. Great pictures, nice of you to take the Beetle out for a breath of fresh air. How did the Critter run on your little cruise?

FWIW, I don't think there is any difference between Nile Beige & Prairie Beige. I think VW just changed the name for marketing purposes as part of the switch from 55 to 56. Years ago, VWTrends ran a piece an a low mileage late 55 US spec Nile Beige that looked almost white, then I saw photos of your ride and thought that looks an awful lot like Prairie Beige. I now think the VWTrends car either wasn't Nile Beige or the photos just didn't even come close to the true color.

With a name like L378 its hard to disagree, but I find it hard to believe Glasurit would use two different paint codes for the same color, it just isn't German! Laughing

But hey man who knows.

Either way, hit a few snags with my door assembly. Broken off bolts, missing parts, breaking a vent window handle, etc. Fun stuff!

I am getting ready to head out for a parts run in the Beetle and actually leaving the island for the first time on a 30 mile round trip cruise. Wish me luck!

Here are the formulas for L370 (NB) and L378 (PB). Not identical, but pretty close (what I should have said). I see it as VWs variation of planned obsolesence, a subtle change. I would likely have a very hard time distinguishing between Nile and Prairie even if the two cars were freshly painted using the same brand, mixed and shot by the same person and sitting side by side on a sunny day. I'll see if I can find that VWT article to post so any interested party can get an idea of where I'm coming from wrt NB. Certainly, the color with the code shows Nile as being more brown with the Prairie being more gray, but put a photo of your ride next to Kjell's and they look almost identical to me. Good luck with the hunt, pretty windy here today, take it easy if going over the bay bridge.

Very nice research L378 good work! Hopefully we can meet at the Simple Transport or a local show someday.

So I headed East and avoided the Bay Bridge, this time. It was a smooth drive with no issues! Got lots of looks and one guy even took my picture while I was driving haha.

It was fun getting out and sharing it with the local vw shop. Picked up a nice Passenger Vent window which will get a chrome polish and I'll slide my SEKURIT glass in there, good to go. I can now resume door assembly.

Oh, and German Square weave and TMI Seat covers have been ordered! Dancing

Welded Floor Mat Buttons, installed vent window and rubber seals. Finally found a decent original chrome frame (in fitting with the theme), and fitted the SEKURIT glass. Still need to do felt channel, window regulator, and das door opener.

After I am done the floors.
I have the correct mats, new running boards, and wide trim, just have to piece them together.
Carpet shows up this week so I was focused on getting the floors in good shape.

Also finished up all the seat frames. They are tucked away in storage waiting on the covers to arrive. I already have the horse-hair and I was able to reuse the upper portion of horsehair for the back seat. I didn't take a lot of pictures, its not all that exciting Smile

I put my seat covers outside on a really hot sunny day before I stretch them over.

Seems the last few times were over the winter, so I have used my hot boiler room as a warming spot>
