To answer your question, those little air dams go on the underside of the heads. Those little tabs just get pushed between the fins to hold it in.
Just like in BWD's picture.

On a T4 engine, will ALL of the 1800 tins fit a 1700 T4?
Considering they are both NOT upright engines. |

Ha! This is one I think i can actually answer. for once (i think). Yes, all of the tin is the same from a 17-1800 type IV. I know way more about the type IV than I do the type I's. If I am wrong, someone will chime in but the ONLY difference in the 17 vs 1800 is the size of the pistons. |

For the missing cylinder head tiny-tins (off strumming their ukeleles and singing in falsetto), it really is a very simple one to make IF you have a pattern of some sort. It might be commercially viable to sell little cardstock templates for something on the order of $1. Just about anyone can churn out more than their wage in an hour, and thus make a profit (not considering overhead). A product testing phase (put it up to see how it sells) wouldn't cost much either. It would just cost a piece of card stock and an hour or so to churn out a hundred of them and shove them in a folder. $1 is a reasonable price for something like that (especially if you need it), and it would be doing the air cooled world a favor. It is the sort of thing that would require someone with a known and trusted presence (like ACN) to be able to get them out there in any volume. In other words, if I were to make them and throw them up on the Classifieds, no one would take notice. If John were to do so, it would lend credibility to the product from the start (a lot of people don't even know they're missing) and simultaneously serve as a sounding board to build awareness that the need for the product exists.
That's my entrepreneurial $0.02. _________________ -'74 Toyota FJ40 (DD)

Are you going for a historically correct engine tin engine, like concours stuff? Just wondering why no one has posted super cool tin (type 3) cylinder tin?
.
This has always been recommended to me with any build.

| Type III tin is for Type III, not Type I, even though it will fit. Its not better for a Type I |

Bob Hoover would disagree.
In a situation where no sleds can be used (merged header/baja) modified "cool tin" is worth it. If sleds can be used stick with the stock square deflector tin and the industrial tin or heater box.
