Could someone please help me.. I am new to the Bug world..

I have a 1967 VW bug converted to a dune buggy.. Air cooled.

When i was driving the clutch just stopped working.. I tightened the wing nut to the point of the nut touching the little arm.. and when I push on the clutch pedal there is no resistance and pedal goes to the floor... When I remove my foot the pedal does come back into position..

Could some one please provide me with a little insight as to the issue.

Also, is this an easy fix?

Thanks for your help in advance..

Bedhead.

Cluth cable may have disconnected from the hook inside the tunel. Should be an easy job in theory, but it's a pain in the a$$ in reality. Good luck.

Broken clutch cable? When you try to tighten the nut, does the cable turn too? If so, the cable frayed and broke. Have someone push the clutch while you watch the clutch rod (by the nut), Does the rod move?

The fingers on the throw out bear cross shaft hold the throw out bearing may have broken off.
Any noise when pushing the pedal while engine is running?

Yes the rod does move when the clutch is pushed in..

Yes there is a slight girding noise when the clutch pedal is pushed in when the engine is running...

Is this a difficult fix? Should it be taken to a shop or could a DIY person fix this?

Thanks for your help

You'll need to drop the engine out and see what's broken, something in the release mechanism or maybe the diaphragm spring (if it's that type) in the clutch pressure plate by the sound of it.

It sounds like you need to buy a good workshop manual to study or use a 'Google' search for info on engine removal. It'll only need 1/2 hours spare time, a pair of ramps, a floorjack and some basic hand tools.

Yep, gotta pull the engine. Not difficult at all if you have any skills at all to speak of. You didnt say what type buggy you are dealing with. You may not need ramps even.

DISCONNECT THE BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE FIRST!!!! So many horror stories begin with "I thought I could do it hot".
