I thought I would re-post this shot I took over the weekend in case people missed it. Sometimes my enthusiasm gets the best of me and I went on a 2 page alloy binge because of it. I just thought this was such a cool shot. When you look at these cars up close one of them looks like It couldve been saved from somewhere, the one in the middle looked like it couldve belonged to a little old lady at some point and the RHD was flawless. Yet they are all sitting together looking like a million bucks...Thats what its all about, Just my opinion!!!

man i miss the good old days when the Porsche alloy was the wheel of choice amongst almost everyone. When you would put them on every stage bug much like those ^^^ , when you would put them on a squareback, notchback, ghia, bus and even a non-Vdub. Check this puppy out;

That was normal back then and with no Internet you were totally on your own when it came to getting your own style! Today you have thousands of ideas to choose from just a click away.

Man! CRG you hit it on the nail.......I never thought about the "no internet" when we were building our rides back then....It was just trying things out and seeing what kind of response you got at the cruise spots.

You had go-to guys where I grew up. Guys who had been doing it for awhile, legal and yes some illegally too. These guys had done quite a bit by 1984 and also had the hookups for parts and knowledge.

Yes that is a Danny A. design piece. He painted all the famous cars of the day like Babboom, Rag berry, King Rag and lil dreamer amongst many others including many of the mini truck logos like the Mini stompers. I`ll try to get Danny to post up in this thread also. After many phone calls and people in the car painting world I was able to find him 27 years later and I recently had the chance to talk to Danny about the old days and cars back then and how they were named. The owners/driver of each car would already have a name and idea and Danny would draw up something out of his head and use it. Danny went to work for Disney for some twenty years and was the main guy for all the art work for the "Power rangers". He was also the head painter for all the work in the movie Robo Cop! There is so much to tell but ill save it for when Bad Temper II makes a comeback.
On a small note Bad Temper was almost going to be named Challenger with a picture of the space craft in the air cos the Space shuttle named Challenger met it`s fate the same week they logo`d this car but stayed with BTII. This was January 28, 1986 when the unfortunate took part.

What a cool revelation. As we put all the pieces to the scene together you can see why our scene was so badass and memorable. We had the best party promoter, the best style, the best wheel, and the best artist that was logoing and lettering those cars that were leading the charge. Those cars captivated teenaged kids like myself and many others and obviously Disney recognized the same. WOW, cool story there CRG!!!!!!!!!!

IMO, Without a shadow of a doubt the 80s L.A. Vdub scene and its contributions can be categorized as the best kept secret ever in the VW WORLD!!!

I see a ridge on the center of the hood. Is the trim the color of the car???? Ive never seen that before but a neat way to avoid dechroming and try something different. Call me crazy but Im picturing that car with a logo of a little devil or lettering of your pers.plate by Danny A.. That shit would have been twisted evil.

Q-Vo Homie ! I was always up at stadium way cruising my Iceland Green L213 65 bug. There was also a guy named Greg that was from either Highland Park or Hillside Village near Wilson HS in Sereno that had a yellow turbo bug and 58 black vert that was slammed. I used to chill with Rey Mechain.

Mike Jones use to kick it at his hand car wash on York Blvd, You would always see it parked there. A white 57`on alloys BIG BIG MOTOR. Only know of one Dino in the area always had a fast car. He would take V8s like nothing.

Greg from HLP? , Think he`s posted in this thread.
