I just received my set of lights I will be using in my 71 Vert resto mod and I like them for the price. The chrome rims are plastic but the finish on them is great.
They came from here:

I will take lots of pics as I get the fenders set up to accept theseas soon as I get my foot out of the BOOT it's in since rupturing my achilles. |

| I am still not able to work with my screwed up ankle so it may be a while on this one. One issue I have run into is finding a correct headlight plug for the Mini lights. Nothing I have seen on the web looks like it will work so I guess I will have to check out the MIni dealer to see if they have them otherwise I will have to run some terminals off the posts on the lights and make a weather proof connection upstream and seal those connections somehow? |

How is the fit in the fender? From the picture posted on Amazon it looks like they will fit early Beetle fenders pretty easily because of the slant to them, but would be a pain to fit on late model fenders.
What is your plan? |

How deep are they? Have you checked for tire clearance? Sounds like a cool mod if done correctly! _________________ Strive for perfection in everything. Take the best that exist and make it better. If it doesn't exist, create it. Accept nothing nearly right or good enough."

Thanks Derrick for your pics. I can see from my initial messing around I will probably have to extend the fenders as you did in order to gain about 3 inches more clearance for the headlights from the Mini. You did a great job!
Here is the mini housing which is about 7 inches deep versus the stock headlight bucket at about 4 1/2
The Left Housing
Another measure
Sizing the Mod by eye only. Looks like I need Derrick's mod the clear the tires. The lines are 4 1/2 depth and 7 inch depth.

I am going to start looking for some usable super front fenders that I can cut to extend the lights forward as Derrick did. Here's his mod.
I really like the way this resembles the early Porsche lights.

One more pic.
Any body got some super fenders they do not need?? I will start searching the ads as well.
I am going to make a different type spoiler from the ones which attach to the bumper and it looks like I need to get the lights in before I do this.
This one is more what I am after.
If it turns out I may use it as a plug and pull amold off it as I have not seen any like it and maybe other super owners will like the look. I will post the development as a separate thread
I can finally walk!! |

| I was looking at those headlights last week. Would like to see how you get them to fit. My friend in Ohio put new beetle tail lights on his bug, looks great also |

I have decided to back off on this part of my project so maybe I will have the car 's stock bodywork done and painted by next summer. I have extra front fenders which I can modify but I think I want to see how much clearance I will need to the back of the headlight housings once I have the topline struts and mag wheels on the car. I can cut the extra fenders off the body and do all the metal work as well as making fiberglass buckets to encase the headlight rears. They are not made to be in the splash zone from the tires and will require a bucket over them.
Then I can paint them to match hopefully.
I have decided to go with Diamond Green Metallic for the color of the car and for me metallics are hard to match even from the same can if done at different times. Humidity, temp, and all other variables seem to come in play.
This mod would be much easier on a non super from what I can see of the people that did it. Probably easiest on a Ghia as no clearance issues? |

Ok. Been away on this one a while but have some progress.
Thanks to HarryO in Vegas for the clue on using the Mini Cooper mounts as he did on his 63. His is the yellow and silver one seen in some past posts. This is much better than winging it like I was doing.
Found a Mini hood on Craigslist in Grand Rapids for $50 and I got the seller to cut off the sections I will be using instead of trying to ship a complete hood.
So here's where I am as of today.
The Mini hood is a 2 ply construction as you can see from the one inside shot. That all has to be cut out except the three mounting holes. I will then have to contour the top to mate with the existing fender and cut away the existing bucket and surrounding. Then I will beat a panel(s) to fill in below. I was also looking tho extend to lower area which curves under the light downward to make it look more like one piece fronts used on drag cars.
This should meld in nicely with the spoiler I will make for the front and will look more like a pre A Porsche. I should be able to use the back (where the running board bolts) of the spare fenders I have to do this |
