My 63 Ghia, before and after. My dad's orignal car purchased new, been in storage for 30 years, just completed the 1.5 year restoration, with a touch of modern appliances.

Beauty shot of my '74 cabriolet, scanned from a vintage tire company catalog.
And a not-so-beauty shot of my Nov. '58 coupe (titled as a '59). There's a couple other restoration projects ahead of it in the queue, so I may hoodride this for a while just so I can roll it.

63 Ghia, you have helped me settle on the color for my 72 Vert when I am ready for paint. What a great looking Ghia.
My 72 Vert will have a Black Canvas top and will be riding on Fuchs, so I can kind of envision it looking something like your beautiful ride.

That looks fantastic, so elegant, what a fabulous job. I hope your dad is still around to go for a ride but if not what a way to keep a legacy for him. _________________ 74 Karmann Ghia Vert |

Hi kareng, thanks for the compliments and kind words. It was definitely a labor of love, I'm really happy the way it came out. It was my first vw restoration so i was in somewhat uncharted territory, I've done a lot of other auto restos before, but none this fun. Yes, my dad was very happy with the results, although he can't really drive it too easily being so low and all. I take him around in it once in a while.

yes, it's definitely a project, but stick to it, it will be well worth it in the end. Your 70 Ghia is not so ghetto, looks pretty solid, you should get that going too! |

I drove the 70 for a couple years, so believe me, it is Ghetto. Just looks a lot better in the pictures. _________________ Eric Meldrum

| may be true, but I've seen a lot worse resurrected. As long as you have a decent body, with no major accidents, you can do a body off resto from the ground up. I just hate seeing ghias get ripped apart for parts when they're not too far gone. |

Funny, I had worked on a design for a new chassis/engine combo which only needed a body. Unfortunately no space or money right now after dropping a ton of $$ on a wedding

Here's my ghia! I bought it in 2011 from the second owner - it was originally purchased in Alabama - with air conditioning added at the dealer. It was then purchased in Santa Cruz CA. It sat on blocks in Austin TX since approximately 94. It has 166K original miles. As a kid I was a mechanic at Little Cars LTD on Long Island in New York. I had a 71 superbeetle convert - and when I rode a ghia vert back then I said wow - I want one. Well, I am 50 now and had a mid life crisis and started looking for my dream car!
Thank You Ivan Snyder for all you taught me!

This is my first post on the The Samba though I have read the threads and even bought parts off here. Just not been active in years so starting again.
I just saw Bill posted a pic of his 59 low-light along with pic of Manfred. The Ghia meetup we had in Annapolis was way cool.
And then there is Loren who is being a big help and Dave Ruby with the scary knowledge. Hey guys.
Started a blog on my 1958 Karmann Ghia project: http://omiaghia.blogspot.com/

Dave, glad to see you're still around and still have your '58. Of course, I wouldn't even have my lo-lite if you hadn't dangled the ad under my nose! _________________ Mr. Bill |
