Nothing else I know about it really. Shawn sent me the picture when he found it. Somewhere on the mainland I think. He met a guy at a swap meet, started talking VW, and "Yeah, I got one of those old things in my barn". I was jealous. _________________ Live and learn. Or die stupid. |

Found this one, they wanted $300, but did not buy it because of rust, just did not seem worth the trouble.
Wonder if it is still there.

My '57 Deluxe, found in a dry barn, torn down for restoration and never finished. Remarkably low rust shell for the mid-Atlantic. Nice but titleless '60 pan. Original beam, based on date coding its s/n against the shell (same part of same month). Complete sheetmetal inventory, tho' there were three front fenders and only one rear - that makes four, right? Most glass and interior, not much running gear, no engine or trans. My current avatar was taken the day I picked it up.

Found my oval, sleeping in a heated garage for more than 25 years
First owner did 185.000km with the beetle.
Second owner only 10000km... and then put the oval for an beauty-sleep of 25 year in an heated garage.
The men is now an Porsche 356 owner, and sold his oval...
There is NO rust on the oval
This is the place where I first saw her en felt in love

Hello TD!
Yeah, to cut the old grime and dirt off with Simple Green and then I have to find away to get that Rustoleum brush paint off the fenders and passenger side door and taillight and then it's Zymol Light Blue Wax and lot's of elbow grease! - I want to bring back the original paint as best as can be done, it will be the first PRESERVATION restoration that I do.
Someone said that Easy Off Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner would work? But, I don't want to damage the original rusty paint under the brushed stuff.......
Concerning the paint, here's something that was really funny ~ my long time insurance agent saw pix of the car and said, "yes, I know you have been looking for a car like this for a long time....when are you going to have the car repainted?"
I looked at her and smiled and said, well the car is worth a whole lot more with it's original paint and well we do want the car to hold it's value! She laughed and said yes, we do want that, so the OG paint stays!
As for the car, all I'm doing to the outside is keeping the original two tone wheels with some radials or some silver painted 1963 Lemmerz Porsche 356B wheels and finned aluminum brake drums that I have, I still haven't decided yet? And I might save up for a Repop Abarth 4-Tip muffler from CIP 1/Mr Wob.
My interior is like 100% original and I'm just adding a Bambus shelf and an American Export Blaupunkt AM/FM Marine Band radio as soon as it gets back from Germany and I have a very unique and tapered Rosenthal bud vase for the radio grill and the car came with an original Kamei Rear Seat Hatch Cover (shelf) other than that it didn't have anything else brought back with it from Germany, a simple look with the radio being the most excitement.

I wouldnt use oven cleaner. Go to home depot and buy some goof off. Put some on a rag and rub. With a litttle work the repaint will come off, but its gunna take some rubbing. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

I agree.... Although I won't hazard a guess about the correct way to go about it without looking at it.
My advise would be to go easy though and take your time with the gentlest of products..... no hurry, she's been there a long time as is and will be just fine for a long time to come !
This is the the type of car I would force myself to be patient enough to wait for next time !
Good luck mahn..... |

In my Father-in-laws shed in the Lockyer Valley, near Brisbane Australia.
They had some pretty bad floods out there last year, when I found out my father-in-law and his partner were ok the first question I ask is the Oval ok, fortunately the flood water just touched the tyres. |
