Ok i just bought some wheel cyclinders for my '58 from Auto Value they are Beck Arnley brand the problem is one set looks wrong.
I have not yet taken apart my car to verify because it is in winter storage. Can someone tell me if these are right or not the Beck Arnley part #'s are 072-8046 & 072-8050

sorry for the cell phone pic's the top one is the one in question with that diameter just at 1/2" long and the pistons seem small compare to the bottom pic which is what I'm used to seeing.
Thanks Alan

bottom one looks correct, but the top one should be fine,if only the round machine part sticking out where the line attaches is the only difference, this wont make a difference, the brake line doesnt care if its out 1/4 from where it normally mounts. but the rest of the cylinder dimensions matter- size, width of cups, and diameter of the cylinder ( would effect braking force if cylinders mis matched on the axle!

I just thought I would let all of the 58-59 people know that we have started a 58-59 forum. On it we have a registry and would love all the 58-59 owners to stop by and check it out. We would love to have their vehicles info to add to the registry.

Here is the link....
http://58-59enthusiasts.proboards.com/index.cgi

Thanks!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that, Wolfsburg West is now offering the correct WIRING COVER, for Bugs made from fiberboard material with proper texture. Features correctly shaped metal grommets and factory correct matte black coating.

Next best thing to an original.

Can anyone tell me what stickers were OG on my 59 euro ragtop. It's been painted over twice, the oil bath breather is original but dosent show signs of ever having a sticker there. The numbers show it was built in Nov 1958.
Thanks in advanced.

There should be three decals located on the motor. The Bosch decal on the coil, the directions decal on the air cleaner, and the valve adjustment decal on the side of the shroud. All are available from Wolfsburg West, but last time I checked they were out of the Bosch decal. I got my Bosch decal off of ebay.

Valve adjustment decal, that started in Nov 1964, better not be on a 58...... Shocked

whoops bad info then on my part, but mine sure has one. it was there, but looked like hell, so I replaced it. Right upper top of the shroud. Must have been added later then.

Then again I bet the dealer kept a hand full of them there and charged the customer for them. Put them on then.

There was no evidence of any decals on the motor, looks like OG paint on the motor. The body on the other hand has three paint jobs.
I purchased the decal for the breather just not sure what else it should have.

Where is the frame reinforced on a 59 or newer as stated on the model ID pic??

I had a 56 and now I am working on a 11/58 (59 model). I am curious to see the difference.

thanks.

Its my understanding this is the gusset between the rear torsion housing and the outside of the pickle fork on each side. The '59 has the triangle bracket in there like later swing axle Bugs. This is not present on the '58 and earlier Bugs.
