What tool is used to detach the inner flange bolts on the front axle of a 97 VW Golf?
I am trying to replace the front axle (passenger side) and have been unable to get these bolts loose. They appear to be Torx socket head bolts and, indeed, the sample bolts that were with the 99 Jetta axle I picked up at the wrecker are torx. Unfortunately, the torx wrench that fits those bolts does not fit the ones on the car (just slips.)
Is there a specific size I need or is it something other than a torx? If it requires a special VW wrench what do I ask for?

What you are looking for is called a triple square socket or 12 point. I do believe the one you need is a 8mm. Where to get one is I know off a tool truck or check at your local sears.

Thanks,po7g . I appreciate your quick response. Guess that's why they wouldn't come off with a Torx.
