Ok, so I would like to swap out the old split case transmission with a newer transmission. Do I need to just reuse the nosecone, hockey stick and front mount on the new transmission or what do I need to do to complete the conversion?

thanks!

from the searching that i've done....to replace a split case with a tunnel trans, you ahve to have a split bus nose cone and hockey stick.

hopefully someone will tell me i'm an idiot or explain why this is cause i just don't see it, and am currently in the same boat as you (perhaps not as deep as you, mine is just a roller right now so stock trans is fine)

Or you can spend $10.95 and buy the adaptor.

oh....good find! I would love to see a picture of how that looks when it's done. I just can't visualize it. The mount I have now is weird. It's stock, but I've never seen the '60 only front mount before now.....WTH.....

I did notice, however, that it states that it is for the '59 and earlier bugs.....somewhat weird that they leave out the '60 model year for some reason.

The 60 mount is one all by itself

My bug had the split case tranny in it when I got it. I just cut the old one out and switched it with a later mount. Not too hard but I also had another car that I was using for parts.

'60 is one year only, and the trick with a <'59 bus nose cone and hockey stick will not work. I'd double check the VIN to make sure you don't have the '59 or '61 configuration.

I do not remember off hand, which dimension is different on the '60. However, I do believe it is a one year only front bracket and nose cone. A transmission shop like Rancho, should be able to answer the question for you.

One option may be to install a later bracket to the torsion housing, and use a late model mount and nose cone.

This is the easiest method. Otherwise, you have to buy all the parts and redrill the stick....My vert is a 60 and I know all about this mount. I use it on mine for a later tranny. I MIGHT can get pictures of it installed, but the weather is bad here right now so it might be a while.

X2

60 only items

front trans mount
nose cone
angle of frame horns
inner apron structure
oil dip stick

Ive owned several 60s and the weld on mount is the easiest. Lets you use the easy to find 61 up nose cone and stick AND mount.

I got this today....THIS PART WILL NOT WORK FOR A 1960 Car.

so, now that we have that cleared up, what to do? possibly make a conversion mount? I suppose I'll have to come up with something.....or, do guys maybe cut off the '60 only mount and weld on a mount off of a mid '60's car just to get it to work.

any suggestions?

I posted the link to the correct part in my earlier post, but you bought a part listed for 59 and earlier? Oh well. In this case, 60 only really does mean 60 only. Ive done this multiple times. If you want the easiest method, then follow my advice. If you want to change tranny parts and spend more, then buy the nose cone.

so, who knows of a place that sells new 60 only front transmission mounts? the rubber on mine seems a little worn out......I'll use it if I have to, but I'd prefer not to. I see Wolfsburg West lists them, but there is no price....
