Hello everyone. I just wanted to thank all of you for you help on building this. I just thought I'd share some photos of the car Smile My buddy Joe ( user M113 ) of Cornerstone Garage And Bryan Nunes ( user BryanNunes) of BNR restoration helped a lot including paint and metal work.

What I started with:

First things first make it a ragtop. I got a the bug for $500 and bought the ragtop clip from a wrecked 62 that was being parted out. So first we cut the old roof skin.

Peeled back the drip rail:

Then removed the skin

Then we had to prep the donor ragtop roof:

And fitted it

Trimmed

Then welded just the four posts and re-rolled the drip rail

The Front clip needed some attention:

You can tell it was a lot of hard work, nice job. How long did it take you to finish it?

Hard to say really. It sat in my garage for about 2 years, lol. Then I sold a 57' single cab I had and used the money to finish it. So after the waiting period it took about 4 months.

Beautiful car!
Is it time consuming rolling back the drip rail? I need to replace my roof skin on my 67 bug. It's warped from kids walking across it Crying or Very sad

Maybe I can find a sunroof clip..

It's a little time consuming... One thing we learned after doing it is, the process is actually spelled out in the bentley manual. They recommend using heat so the metal doesn't split. I wish we did that because it did split in a few places and we had to spend time welding those. Also don't bend the drip rail past 90 deg because it'll split for sure. I can't take credit for all this, it was Joe Hill.

I mean, there's very little welding and almost no filler. There's a super thin amount on the pillars, but none on the top. Seems like the right way to me.

X18 on the roof clip. That's one that wouldn't deter me from purchasing the car. In fact, I wouldn't even call that a graft it's so clean. Nice work on the whole car actually!

Max, you caught me. lol. My buddy convinced me that the vert project wasn't worth finishing. I started totaling up the costs and realized that it wasn't going to be worth it. I mean if it was an oval vert, might have been but it's just a 63. So i decided to take the pan, since it was done and finish out the project as a ragtop.

Yes sir, I'll be at Kelley Park. Well, we used Glasurit Single Stage on it (kind of expensive, but it's really nice paint!). I had an original dash grill from a beryl green car and I popped it into the dash just to see the color difference. It was dead on! The color was mixed from Glasurit's catalog, so, I think they did a good job!
