Those are good items to have. I was lucky and also have the OG screen and carrying bag. The cord I had to buy in classifieds.
Thanks you for the kind words about my restoration.
As for not camping in it because of the condition. That will not stop me. I will show it and camp in it. Just like my other cars I bought new, they serve a purpose. Some cars I have are for work and get beat up and cost me just as much if not more. Now I understand this is a classic car but it was made to enjoy and that's what I plan to do in it. Cautiously. |

Oh, one more question. I see you went with rubber mats for the front. Does the company you bought your carpet from make the front cab carpet as well, or would it have to be professionally cut and bound?
Incidentally, your cabinet relaminating is the best cabinet job I have ever seen. And one more thought- When you do your GoWesty! headliner, tell us what you use as an adhesive. I used the strongest 3M spray adhesive I could find at my FLAPS and after a year it was already sagging. It is similar material in look, but much heavier. The original is like a paper thin basketweave applique and the GoWesty is a thicker rubberized basketweave.

I did go with rubber mats for just everyday travel, for shows i have the carpet for the front. Just do not want to get it dirty. THe front piece came with the Kit. Only difference from original is that is doesnt have the rubber square by drivers feet in it.
Thanks about the cabinets. It was a long process stipping, sanding, rebuilding them but it sure paid off. DOing the panels as well just made it look so tight. Am very pleased with the result.
Have you tried 3m 90 super adhesive, its not available at the flaps only home centers and online. Home depot carries it. Use thin even coats, spray both headliner and surface its going on, let get tacky and you golden.
the headliner matterial at Gowesty is thicker for sure, very white in color and the basket weave pattern is angled compared to OG stuff being liner. You would never notice unless you look closely. I have yet to put my headliner material on or install it. I was thinking of having my Upholster put the headliners material on the panels i have cut out so I dont screw it up.

These look really nice. I'm wondering what you used for the coping on the top? I do have the corner pieces you screw down but am missing any coping/molding to hide the metal edge where the horizontal and vertical edges meet. Is that part of the kit you ordered? |

send copy of the above picture to CHris at bustedbus.com and tell him i reffered you. He has them. I had to trim mine a bit to fit but it is the fix needed for this application. THat piece of molding is of and earlier model bus by the way. On these swivel seats the OG mat used to cover that lip. Hope this helps.

I've got the 1979 in Mexico Beige P27 model. I love the color and restoration work on yours. I've been following the thread with great interest. Mine is all stock except for some missing parts here and there and although I won't do a full resto like you did, I'm picking and choosing my favorite things. Yours is an inspiration for sure.

You have super nice bus there. Sorry I do not have part number for that trim piece.
Notch boy the trim molding did need an inch or two cut off the end to accommodate the corner molding as see in picture. I think if anyone has to do the seat stand mat fix having the corner piece allows for better overal look in the end.

FYI - It's much easier to cut top patch if you have the larger corner trim piece to cover your cut edges. It hides much better from what I found.

Well after searching for an hour and reading pages in the oil sticky I'm outta steam. The search feature on this site blows and has left me no choice but to throw in the towel and ask for help.
Does anyone know if the VW oil filter for the bus has a bleed back valve? I was using Mahn but heard they do not have this valve feature.

I have a box of NOS VW oil filters, and they do nit have the anti- bleedback valve. However, the VW NOS filter for the Passat does. This was not a feature offered in the old days, and it appears that VW never re-engineered their filter to have the valve. I like the anti-bleedback valve, and would try to find a brand that has it.

Curtis, Did you put the top piece ( the one you "manufactured") on the passenger pedestal under the lower piece ...did you "overlap"....or... cut it so that it lined up perfectly with the upper seam....I am very impressed with your craftmanship...and should be doing this next weekend...thanks, Bob

Thank you for the info on filters. We used new VW filter for oil change, I will have to get some Napa golds or verify if the one I have has this valve.
Ashley1. I'm guessing you are talking about my side pedistal patch. For that one I place lower section on first as this requires no cuts. Let dry. You will notice the top rear edge fits into the contour of the bus pedistal. Them for the patch you will use the driver side pedistal mat you bought extra. Has to be driver side to do it right. I turned the mat up side down and used the factory edge to over lap the lower mat. It fits nice as the lower mat is sunken in the contour of the body. I used soft clamps to hold mat in place as I trimmed piece to fit. I trimmed slowly and gave much thought to the cuts. If you want I can pm you my number and can walk you threw it.

There is threads on this site about the filter but I lost it. From what I gathered from the thread is it prevents bleeddown in your lifters during cold start. or rather prevents oil bleeding down in between starts. So if bus sits awhile you will build oil pressure faster. Atleast that kinda what I remember. It's late
