Thanks! I am in love with this bus. I have been working on it almost non stop. I do drive it in between working on it though!
Got a lot done today!!
The headliner is cut out, unstained,
Look how good I am at using a jig saw!! LOL
Stained and ready to go in,
My "trash" truck turned into a work bench!!
I actually ran these wires the other day. Today I figured out where to hook what on the light. I just need to buy a toggle switch, then I can install it into the side panel once I get to making it!
Question on the light hook up. I would like to be able to turn the light on from my toggle switch I am going to install above the sliding door, then turn it off by the switch on the light itself and visa versa. Is that possible?
I also fixed some of the trim pieces.
Hopefully the step kid is well enough to come over sometime this week to do the windshield. That is all I am waiting on now. Once it is in, everything else is set to go. Once the headliner piece is in, I can measure and make my middle panels and install the light and switch. Can't wait!! _________________ Kim

it should work, if both switches are on, then the light works, if one is off, or both are off, the light does not work. i think. depends on how you wire it up. similar to a house room with a switch at each side of the room. _________________ MINE - 1978 Westfalia ~ Maisy ~ FI, Hydraulic Valves, Electronic Points, 2.0 (NEED A SET OF HEADS, PM ME IF YOU HAVE A SET)

Well I decided not to wait for the windshield to be installed before I put the headliner in. I just couldn't wait! LOL So today I put the insulation up,
Then attempted to put the headliner up, by myself. It wouldn't fit so I had to take it back down and do some trimming. Did that and then I was able to get it installed, by myself! Yah, I'm pretty stoked that I was able to do it with now help. I did read the Benley though!
Here it is laying from dash to seats. Made it easy with the windshield out! LOL
Got it in!
Then I worked on the middle panels. Got my light attached and working.
Here is a shot from the back,
Light on. See that blurry thing toward the front of the photo?
That is my switch I installed by the slider door!! Here is a close up of it!
A shot from the front. Again, made it easy for a pic with no windshield! LOL
Another shot of my switch by the slider.
I have a question on the last pic. See the air vent going up? See the little round O ring type thing? Is that where it goes or does it go on the outside on the metal of the bus? I can't remember how it came out when I first took it off the bus. Before I removed it for the headliner install, I had it on the metal. I thought it was to seal the metal to help prevent leaks. But now that the headliner is in, it looks like it may be the finishing piece for covering up the wood hole?
Now I wait for the windshield install. Then I can drive it again!! _________________ Kim

Today I basically just did some cleaning up inside. Had to get all the dust from the Mar Glass out of the inside. Still waiting on the windshield to be installed so not much more I can do right now.
I did try some chrome polish on my turn signal switch and was kind of shocked on how it came out!!
Before ( old pic before I cleaned the dash and all up.)
After a little elbow grease and chrome polish.
I am getting a bit anxious about getting the windshield in. I wasn't in a big hurry until I got the headliner in and now the weather is perfect bus weather! _________________ Kim

No, that was an old photo! I have found all the caps since that pic! Thanks though!
That reminds me, I forgot to mention that today I also hooked my fog light to the light switch that is supposed to turn the rear cargo light on. It wasn't hooked up and although I did find the wires that went to it, I decided my pull chain is all I really needed. Didn't need to turn the light on from the dash. Previously I had the fog light on a toggle switch that I just wire tied to the steering column for the time being. This got rid of the wires coming up the column and also put that switch to better use for me! _________________ Kim

How did you do that? The trim in my 72 is very stiff, I was thinking about softening it with a heat gun and then glueing it back.
Nice work on there and on the rest of the bus! _________________

Easter Sunday we got the windshield in!! Although the day before I did drive it to the yard sale we were having at the tow yard, with no windshield! It was almost like riding a motorcycle. LOL Wind blowing in my hair. I put the window cover on it and had to use a pipe to make it stay up. Kind of turned the bus into a split window for a day. LOL
So here is the day of the install.
Step kid and his girlfriend (both work for Safelite) installing the glass. He say's he doesn't like VW's anymore! LOL
All in with one minor mishap. He was having issues with getting the top corner of the rubber to go in right and accidenlty cut it when he was trying to push it in more. No biggie though because he just used some of his windshield goop stuff and glued that section. That is why the tape is there.
Ok, here is a before. You can see all the bubbles in the glass.
After,
It is really strange driving it and seeing out so clear. Almost like not having a glass there! LOL
I also got my driver kick panel in. I lucked out and was able to run the wire tie that holds my fuse panel through the brake reservior notch, so I didn't have to move it back to where it goes. I kind of like it out front. THat way my relays don't go bad. You know as soon as I move it to where it goes, they will die on me! LOL

I love your passion and excitement for getting this bus all spiffed up. I am much the same. Keep up the great work.
And......so many people dislike tie dye, but I love it, not necessarily for bus curtains, but just in general. Looks like you have some pretty cool apparel there. _________________ *****************

Thanks! Yah, I love tie dye. Only thing I have found is I where more of what I make, then I sell! LOL Course I don't try to hard to sell it. This is only the second time in about 4 years that I put some out at the yard sale. LOL Mainly friends and family buy it from me.
As far as the curtains. They go with the busses license plate. LOL Although I'm not thrilled with the material I used for them. I would like to find something that fits the bus better. These are just dinner napkins. Maybe one day I will buy some material and attempt to sew my own, then tie dye them. LOL _________________ Kim

Just a little update.
I recently decided to try to clean the bottom frame of the Jalousie windows. There was some bad oxidation on them. Ended up using sand paper, WD40, and some steel wool, finished it off with some aluminum polish.
Went from this,
To this,
Didn't come out to bad.
Today we finally got the bus on the lift so I could check my clutch cable. I am not liking how it feels. Seems like it lets out way late and when it does let out, seems like there isn't much there to let out. Hard to explain, LOL. Anyway, from the looks of the clip and the part the clip clips to, it was a good thing I got to it in when I did.
The cable looks good, but I am going to buy a new one anyway and keep the old one as a back up.
I did learn something while backing into the garage today. Make sure you check the door before backing in. It may not be up far enough!
Luckily the seal is no good. I didn't ruin a good seal. That and I didn't damage the fiberglass. My next thing to research is coating the top. Then once that is done I can buy a new seal. I have till winter to figure this out! LOL
Here's just an artsy shot of it on the rack!
Tomorrow I will go buy my parts and hopefully get it back together. _________________ Kim
