The job I'd been on ended early, I had to pack my tools off site and my van was at home. WSP lights me up on the highway. Half a truck load of tools crammed into my 68 beetle... I get a ticket for no seat belt (No good excuse not to wear the seat belt, the 44 year old rotten seat belt that really must be replaced). The officer didn't blink at the tool boxes, buckets, furniture dolly, garbage can stacked in the back seat or the hand truck wedged in the passenger foot well. Didn't think to ask about the rolling papers on the passenger seat. With $$ in his eyes he handed me a ticket for driving a NEW BEETLE TDI with out a seat belt. Dumbass. Both of us. Thats my story. |

The ticket is wrong, so you can dispute it. Show them you don't own a New Beetle TDI. It'll take some of your time to appear in court but you won't have to pay the fine or keep the points on your record. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Yes there is an error on the ticket, but I wasn't wearing the belt so I'll pay it. I just thought it was funny that the guy couldn't get the info right and that he didn't care about the other potential safety issues. Just a tax collecter.
Thanks. |

Cool you are paying the ticket, but he doesn't get any of that money, actually he could care less. His money comes form other taxes that have been collected already/ _________________ Cancer, You have claimed another beautiful life, but You will be defeated....

| Fight it! Your lapse in judgement deserves the shame you are feeling, but paying the fine when you don't have to is pointless. They aren't using that money to feed orphans y'know. It's just more slop in the trough. |

You guys are funny.
A day off work would cost well more than the ticket, so they win there.
Not to mention that I was in fact in violation of the law.
Signing the ticket would be a lie wouldn't it? I should go to court and tell the judge that I'd like to pay but I'd be lying if I claimed to be guilty of driving a new beetle!
ALLWAGONS, I don't quite see what you mean. The funding of his paycheck was never in question but I do think that the potential of wasted time in the court system due to an error on his part would be something to concerned about. That would be a drain of those real taxes that had already been collected. Perhaps I should call him a revenuer. |

I used to have a blue 1988 Jetta. I got a speeding ticket and the cop wrote "grey Volvo" under vehicle description. _________________ All he needed was a wheel in his hand and four on the road. |

Nice! Make me wonder, doesn't the info come up on their computer when they run the plates? Or they could copy it off the registration.
I had a 75 chevy sport van that they would pull over because the computer abbreviated it to chevrolet sport (and it was really ugly.) The officer would think the plates were stolen off a sport utility until I showed them the paperwork. |

Just my opinion, but I think a cop should have to know what makes and models of cars look like. It would be pointless if there was a apb out on a grey Volvo and he pulls somebody in a blue VW over _________________ All he needed was a wheel in his hand and four on the road. |

Since I don't know- is the ticket generated on a computer riding shotgun? Does the officer have to choose car models based on a "pull down" listing of possible cars? If so, "beetle" likely does not appear- but "sedan" probably does... Pay the ticket- you're guilty sucka. _________________

There is no "sedan" in "new beetle tdi" sucka.
Yes Sir. I'm going to pay, how ever the officer does have a computer riding shotgun and the registration that I kindly provided for him.
That old chevy I mentioned before was once pulled over while a roommate was driving it. He was cuffed and stuffed at gun point based the description of a grey van with over sized tires. Had nothing to do with either of us. I had a laugh, Don might still be POed.
I'd like to say that this is only the second ticket I've had. The first was in 1996 and I payed that one as well. |

I was called to Jury Duty in my town and the case going to trial was a ticket for not wearing a seat belt. It was great. 40 locals had to take the day off to be in the jury pool. When the DA started asking us potential jurors questions I raised my hand and said "sorry I don't believe in seat belt laws". I was dismissed. Had I been picked to serve I would have "Hung" the jury. NOT GUILTY!!! Motorcyclists do not wear seat belts or helmets but yet a car driver is fined. WTF? _________________ "Thou shall not weld on an un-purged tank for the noise will be very loud and thy friends will console thy widow in ways generally unacceptable unto thee." |

Mrs. Cusser got photo-radared while driving my truck, in a very obvious speed trap zone (road went from one lane each way at 35mph to two lanes separated by median at 25mph, WTF) ???
Anyway, I attached a photo of my driver's license as the truck is registered to me, end of story. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each.
