There is an app to upload your pics to photobucket from an iPhone. Then all you have to do is cut and paste the link into the forum. Easy as pie. _________________ “May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.” - Edward Abbey

Tap a Talk is Ok... Except you have to buy an app and you have to be using phpbb3.
There soon will be an server side mobile extension for phpbb

Nope.
I don't think there is any issue without an App?
The site works nice on my Droid phone, not that I use it a ton. _________________ How to: Post Photos | Search

A Free alternative to tap-a-talk is phpbb Mobile
It doesn't require any download by the user so that's a plus. It also may only work on phpbb3 since it requires the quick reply option.
I just installed phpbb mobile on my forum and am checking it out. It looks like the photos are links, not sure if that is normal or not. _________________ Brian O'Kelly

I can see it has been awhile sense someone posted here about the Tapatalk App.
With the new Tapatalk 2 App available is there any way we can get Samba up to speed with Tapatalk?
This is one of only two forums I cannot access via Tapatalk, the other is ShopTalk. I access 12 other forums daily with tapatalk because it is easier to do on the go.
Thanks,
Paul |

| This site is such a valuable resource. The only thing holding it back is its lack for mobile apps like TapaTalk! Seriously Everttb - is upgrading to a newer version of PHPBB that big of a challenge? Who hosts this awesome site? Surely their support could help! Is there a cost involved? I bet we could get enough donations from loyal thesamba users to cover the cost. I'll chip $20 in via PayPal right now! Maybe you haven't used TapaTalk or other similar apps so you don't know what you're missing. You're missing a lot! I'm sending this from my iPhone right now and yes, you can do everything through IOS safari that you can do on a desktop, but the experience/usability is miserable. Same goes for Android. How can I help move this site in this direction?! It's time. |

Nothing has changed.
The support for the site is me.
Yes, upgrading is a challenge.
It's not doing the basic upgrade of the Forums that is a big deal**, it's that I have customized this site so much that I have to rewrite most of the site, including part of the Forums.
I would like to do this at some point but I have no target date.
I have not used TapaTalk but I have seen the screen captures, not sure what is so much better/easier.
Maybe if I was on another site where it could be used I would understand.
I will Google TapaTalk 2 in case anything has changed.
** Although the upgrade process is very slow and could take the site down for 2-3 days to do the upgrade. _________________ How to: Post Photos | Search

So Everett, your web host provides no support? Have you asked? I realize you run this site and have customized it, etc. but any good web hosting company has a support department that can help with this kind of thing, either for free, or for a fee.
There is lots of information on upgrading from PHPBB 2 to PHPBB 3. Looks like PHPBB 3 includes an upgrade/conversion script. I know this kind of thing can be intimidating, but what makes you so sure that you'll loose all of your customizations? This is an upgrade, not a new installation.
And you could always to a test upgrade, either on a separate hosting account, or on a local machine. I know - probably more work than you want to deal with, and you're probably thinking if it ain't broke don't fix it. Well, there is clearly a demand for the added mobile functionality in PHPBB 3, and I can guarantee you this, the demand is only going to increase.
I think it would be worth at least asking your hosting company's support department what upgrading would entail, and if doing so would cause you to loose your customizations. And if they tell you that they'll do the upgrade for you for "X" dollars, well tell the people of theSamba to pony up if they want the upgrade. I'll chip in! |

I'll be more clear:
They do not provide support for add-on scripts where the user has massively changed things behind the scenes. This is what I have done.
I don't think anyone would do that.
Yes, there is an upgrade script.
The upgrade from version 2 to version 3 is not a simple upgrade. It's a major change. Everything I have added on or changed will be 100% gone, including breaking everything major on the site except for the Forums themselves. Version 3 is totally different behind the scenes.
I have already run the upgrade locally many times to play with it and see how long it would take.
Last time I checked it was 2-3 days just to convert the Forums alone... and that was after I rewrote part of the phpBB upgrade script to be wayyyy faster.
The 2-3 days of downtime is a large issue but may just have to occur at some point in the future if I cannot find a way around that. _________________ How to: Post Photos | Search
