My first post! First day of owning an air cooled.
Anyway, drove it about 100 miles, including the extra 75 PO did to meet up half way and get a last ride in it. |

About 12 years ago I bought a 1970 Porsche 914 in San Diego. This model had the same engine as the VW squareback. In fact it was originally called the Volksporsche. I couldn't find a tow dolly. Apparently every one in southern California was being used by people leaving the state. There was one available in Las Vegas. So my wife and I drove from San Diego to Las Vegas, her in the jeep and me in the Porsche with a tow rope on the passenger seat. Made it to LV with no problems and I decided to just keep driving. So I drove 1000 miles in an old Porsche from San Diego to our home in southwest Wyoming.

| Last tuesday, me and my boss went out to pick up this bug at Encinitas Ca. He wanted a bug so bad so I offer to go with him to pick up this 1965 bug. I was the one who drove it down from Encinitas to Chula Vista night time for about 45 mins. I was kinda nervous not knowing the real condition. Gladly, she made it to her new home.. that was my first time driving a bug and now I'm in a look out for one. |

75 miles (1.5 hours) in the dark with no current tags or insurance. I'm newish to manual so it was fun learning as I go. Door was not adjusted properly so it kept popping open and I had to stop 2x to shut it. Fun times and great memories. _________________ Ocho ~ '66 beetle, My daily driver

only about 45 miles........ i was 16 and the bug had no windows or lights and was full of boxes of parts i had to have my brother follow me in his 59 the whole time. it ended up being a race ageist the sunset. but i still got her 15 years later so it was worth it in the end. |

Well, I drove my buggy about 49 miles. Thank the Lord that it wasn't any further or it probably wouldn't have made it... P.O. didn't tell me that there was a gas leak... |

I so bad wanted to drive my 59' ragtop home but the brakes were super low almost nothing, would have been a 100 mile drive. I kept thinking is it possible, is it possible I can just handbrake it all the way home I wanted to drive it so bad. Played it safe and borrowed a buddy's truck and towbar to get it home, that drive was still exciting looking in the rearview mirror all the time, LOL! _________________ "So didja?" -Bob Hoover |

My girlfriend and I purchased these two Beetles from Sweden, then drove them all the way back to the UK. The Sea Blau '65 was near on 1,400 miles and the Red '63 was just over 1,300 miles home. Both did not miss a beat, we are going back out to Sweden soon to collect a '62 and that will be driven home too.
We love our European road trips...!
We travelled through: Sweden, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France and finally the UK. 7 Countries in 3 days each time. |

| When I bought my '67, it came with new floor pans, heater channels, new bumpers, and all the repair panels to rebuild the car piled inside. So I guess I towed a complete car, including the extra rust, 45 miles home. |

I drove my '61 for 30 miles with an unknown condition 40 horse, prayed the whole time and made it home with no issues. Continued to drive the car for many more miles worry free until selling it for my bus.
Stopped to check things out with my buddies '67 at Bass Pro Shops
A few weeks later
