Very productive day

Beautiful blue skies and 75-80. went for lunch and long drive with my 2 younger boys. 14yr old is enjoying the new radio system and his ipod through the system.

more work done on rear speaker pods. put final sealer primer coat and then top coated with L87 Pearl White to match the body. They will mount rt behind rear seat on side of body. They will point forward to those in backseat. I will get pics once mounted. They will house a pair of Kicker 6x9 3-ways to match front Kickers.

here's some construction photos

Wouldn't doubt it! the list of show stickers under their hood (errrrm, trunk?) was amazing! They did a great job and it looked great, considering they were out playing in the sand the night before! I had to leave before the awards, but I'm sure they took the stock Thing class hands down! Happy to lose to a car like that!

On a second note, they had a theft prevention device that locked the car in 1st and locked to the ebrake handle (says he has to bring 'em from Europe), wish I could find 'em here! Beats a club anyday.

Yea, we chatted about that device as well. Pretty unique.

Got rid of the junk Chinese shifter. While the longer rod and backward curve was nice, actual shifting "feel" was horrible with the bus trans conversion. The stock shifter from my Ghia did the trick, much more precise. The Ghia, with stock trans, does shift well with a newer EMPI (Chinese) one.

Got the rubber pipe to install the stock air cleaner and jettisoned the cheap chrome aftermarket cleaner. Adjusted the throttle cable so it actually closes and adjusted idle properly using the bypass screw (30/31 carb). Choke could then be adjusted to the mark and the Thing idles much smoother now.

Loaded up the fam and headed to the ball park for my sons first ever scrimmage! He asked last night at supper if I was going to make it to his "screamin Chihuahua"... Or at least that's what I heard.
He apparently said "scrimmage tomorrow". My hearing isn't what it used to be!

Drove the '73 to work today. I live in WV and my work is in OH, so it was a 210 mile trip of fun. Beautiful cool Spring day in the hills of West Virginia.

On the way home, I "explored" a four wheel drive trail up on a ridge that I will go back with the Baja to see what is all the way through.

Well looks like G.I. Joe had a better day by the pics.......

My oldest was in from college for Easter holidays. Did the annual Easter Egg hunt with my 3 boys. From there, we installed the rear speakers which ultimately ended up in a drive around the neighborhood before Easter Dinner. Great day. Beautiful weather. Just the right temp and sun shine. Speakers sound great. We actually get real good sound from the 4 speakers with out any amplification. The 2 rear speakers cross over the rear seats. The angles worked out great. Maybe an amp in the future.

Here's a couple pics

TX VW Classic coming up this weekend. Gotta be the biggest show in TX in the hill country based out of the small German town of Fredericksburg. well over 300+ cars last year.

This will be our second trip and first show for this season. about 235 miles away.

we will be heading in Saturday to make a cruise and BBQ and then the big show on Sunday

woohoo!

Came out to work this morning, jumped in the Jeep and it was dead.

That means I had to drive the Thing to work today. Cool

My drive to work is not a usual commute. I had to visit customers in 2 different states. So, my Thing was in three states today. Nice day and nice fun.

But, now for the bad news. I made it home too late to fix the Jeep. So tomorrow, on a sunny 78* day, I will have to drive the Thing again. And I have to drive to another state to vist some other customers.

Hope to get the Jeep fixed soon. Rolling Eyes
