there are supposed to be gaskets under the aluminum plates at the top of the quarter also. hood seal on the earlier cars didn't have any gaskets at the corners but you can service install them by drilling the holes for the nipples. there is a pattern in the Bently manual. your second picture is correct, the other door wedge is not. the extended piece goes on the inside so the outside scraper is a continuous piece all the way. the screws are tiny phillips head chrome screws with trim washers. about the size of the screws that hold the top window seals on. |

| If that's for the dome light it should come out of that smaller hole by the big harness grommet with a smaller grommet |

Window winding mechanisms, were they painted or just bare metalk as well as the metal bits that make up the sliding stuff on the glass?

Let's talk quarter window problems.
I have my window in. When rolled up, it sits dead center. As I roll it down, it begins to slant inward toward the inner side of the channel. It then begins to bind. I must force it down and it sort of clunks and then continues down. As it does to, it begins to recenter itself.
I thought it was the channel, but the frame is not binding in the channel, in fact, it seems the roller (the round piece of the regulator that fits into the channel on the window frame) binds up. I have tried loosening the two bolts and adjusting the mounting bracket for the window frame but to no avail. Any ideas??

are you sure the channel for the roller doesn't have a kink in it? Sounds like that might be bent from the action????

I did take a wrench to it and twisted a little here and there and that seemed to help, so maybe you are on to something. I kept thinking it must be the guide channel that was causing the window to twist like that, but it must be the channel for the roller.

I'd take it back out and get the channel on a bench where you could get a good look at it.

I did and what a mess.
The channel that holds the window was catching on the top right hub of the regulator and was slowly getting peeled back and distorting the channel for the roller. I had to remove the regulator, take the window apart inside of the body and then extract the whole mess is pieces like a tooth extraction gone bad. I then had to spend a good hour straightening the mess out, reinstall and adjust so the window is as far away from the regulator as possible. Just a typical day in VW restoration land: two steps forward, one step back...

Front door wedge - do I have this laid out correctly??
EDIT:: I have the wrong side door seal installed in these photos. 
The Bentley photo isn't much help.

Most of it seems to be there but I don't have the energy to go through it right now. lol (a bit hungover still)  I'll post some pics though tomorrow after I go through it.

For sure! I'm kinda bummed that they started painting it some funky olive color so I'm going to have to dig a little to find the original color on it. The tank must have been replaced too cause it's black, or someone painted it.

I am trying to finish up my top installation today and have a question. Chuck is not open on Monday so I can't pester him.
I have my top pretty much tacked up. The only problem is the sides. The sides in teh rear atachto the outer facings, got that on. There is a bead that runs down the facing then terminates toward the rear. There is then the beading that you use to cover the screws attaching the rear bow to the body. What is the juncture of those two beads supposed to look like? I have the chrome strip that covers the seam between the bead and the top on the rear bow, does that cover the junction of the two beads? Also, I am having a heck of a time getting the material to pull low enough in that area to get the two beads to even connect. Any tips there? Picture would be nice if anyone has one handy.
