Are there any Sambanistas from the Shreveport LA area? My job is making me move and this is one of 2 locations. I have input and info on the other option, but I need to know if the area is as bad as many are telling me? If you have a family and live in that area feel free to give me your 2 cents. _________________ Anthony

The good thing about Shreveport is that its climate is suitable for growing okra, watermelon, tomatos, peppers, and other
stuff that I'm sure you have trouble with in S.D. I actually have a bunch of blood relatives in that area (whom I've never met).
My parents hailed from the Southland, and I've lived and visited around there quite a bit. I now live in Seattle, about as far away
as you can get and still be in the U.S. This is not an accident. _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities

The whole state smells like mildew. I drove through Shreveport a couple years ago and stopped at a McDonalds drive through. Rolled down my window and was hit with a wall of stench that smelled like shit and rancid laundry that had been left in the washer for a week. I asked the girl WTF is that smell and she say "I don't smell nothin". I guess they are just used to the smell. _________________ John Bates

I had a friend ,(like a brother) that lived in Shreveport and he liked it there. He had low standards so I took it with a grain of salt,THEN my parents traveled there,(they are very level headed) but were impressed by the low cost of housing, and the climate.
Seemed like if you have money to "go down"it will take you far......... _________________ "We buy things we don't need,..with money we don't have,...to impress people we don't even like". |

| It's pretty redneck. If you have a specific neighborhood to inquire about, let me know. One of my best friends is from Shreveport and will be driving up there from Houston in a couple days |

It's hot and humid, but I had a good time there on a TDY back in '94...probably because I was TDY. What's your other option? _________________ It's not how wide your hatch is, it's what you do with it.

Thanks brother! I know just like any other state with a big city, there is crime. I know if you don't go here, you are safer. It really doesn't matter because the AF is going to tell me where I'm going. _________________ Anthony

Well, you'll be 3hrs to Dallas. And Dallas sucks...
6 to Austin, Austin is one of my favorite places ever
4 to Houston, which is inbetween Austin and Dallas in coolness. Close to 'Nahlins etc. |

I'm very impressed with how many experts there are from thousands of miles away so someone from the actual area you ask about wouldn't have the weight to carry an opinion. I hope you use their expert advise to your advantage.

Close to 'Nahlins etc. | A friend of mine from high school lives in Austin (we're from northern Illinois) and he absolutely loves Austin because of the variety of activities. He's an I/T entrepreneur, and since Austin is very tech oriented living there helps his business in many ways. _________________ -

Funny you say that... I never once asked for an expert's input. I posted this here because I know like me, many people actually get out and see more than their own state. Obviously if a person from the local area posts it might be I don't know... a little biased? I will say I am curious as to what your expert input of information would be. _________________ Anthony

Interestingly, Houston ranks a 3. but punch in my zip code right outside the city, and it jumps to 33. |
