San Fernando Valley in the house!!! Welcome to our thread.............Hey Derluftwagen there was a grey ragtop from the Valley that I was told at the time was one of the fastest in the Valley. Do you know what VW I'm talking about.
So one night at Elysian park I was there in my streetrace red primered 63 hardtop beater with my full race drivetrain....the only tip off that my bug was all business was the 4 1/2 centerlines with M & H frontrunners and the rear 7" centerlines with studded & forged lugnuts with Hoosier cheater slicks. So this grey ragtop revs me hard passing my buddy Jaime & me sitting in my bug parked on Stadium way. I was itching for some race action. So we jump in my vw and roll up to were a bunch of guys & girls kicking it with other clean VW's and the grey ragtop. We hit them up if they want to run & they accepted so we all drove tho Riverside dr where the 1/4 mile was marked off......you guys that raced will remember where it started and kinda veered slightly left where the finish mark was. So we get there and he wants to see my motor......of course I said NO! and tell him I will let him run without a fan belt to ease his mind that I might have an unfair advantage of some sort. So we line up off of his move.....................We both launched hard and as soon as he shifted to second he misshifted and hurt his engine, obviously kissing an exhaust valve in the process and lost power........I let off once I realized he hurt his engine and cruised to the win...........After I turned around and went back to pick up my buddy and was talking to the guy who was a little bit shook up after damaging his engine. he was telling me that we should rematch after he repairs his car & that he couldn't believe he did that & that he was one of the fastest VW'in the Valley...........Anyway did you know of this car or guy........never got his name but I did see him later that night at Tommies burgers in another VW, and we were cool talking & he was trying to get me to open my decklid so he could see what I was running. |

The big bad wolf was on the prowl one night looking for some dinner but just so happened to come across this little bug affectionately called by her master " Quite the Spanker" ...

He gives me the go yet its his ploy just to hear my goods. What difference did that make, NONE... The ass whoopin is inevitable
http://youtu.be/ChccIiWcsjc Oh, and the fan belt was on...
This is my bug circa late 90s/early 2000s when I rolled around L.A. solo with a 2332, 48 Dels, street tires, freeway flier and 8-1cr. Yes that was my driver..
In Az raising hell on a day cruise about 150 miles from home.
http://youtu.be/twX8wJbAkVQ
A real 5.0 tweaked by the legend Ben Alameda and driven daily.
http://youtu.be/iwpU3AcWwfI
Hey Kidd, although in Texas this scene might remind you of the days racing alongside the mayates on Main st. or Terminal Island..
http://youtu.be/rEIxg1ozozQ
Im Sorry, but no one has ever been able to do the 5.0 thing better than Ben

If the previous ass whoopin wasnt enough he wants a straight-up race this time with a starter. If you notice the roar of Godzilla not as loud this time because I took the fan belt off so I can feather it all the way down just enough to keep him behind me. I was not about to waste my shit anymore than I had to on this bum. He comes up to me afterwards and asks "what do you got in there"? Its just a 4 banger
http://youtu.be/YbJVZLrQkb4
Just a cruiser today with a little 2 litre.
http://youtu.be/2DSoncUgWi4
BUT, soon to re-emerge with a 2332 10-1cr, 86cCam, closer ratio 3rd&4th and permanent street stickies...
Oh, and she will get driven alot, that part never changes. Maybe not on long trips like before but no doubt still looking to embarrass a few V8s. (Ive got my eye set on the entire noisy 5.0 crowd in N/W Phx) _________________ Frank Ochoa said; "I still have my convertible bug from high school. From the go, to knowing where the markers were on that strip of Stadium Way here's the #s...
1st run- 12.90s-very very low 13s. On street tires and the fan belt on, powershifting only thru 3rd and 4th (powershifting was not possiblle thru 1&2nd on street tires as the back end would get loose)
2nd run- low 13s at 3/4 speed w/o the fan belt.
That 2332 was rated at approx 175 horses w/8-1cr and engle 130, 48 Dels (tri-jets).
Its reincarnation will consist of 10-1cr, web86c and stage 2-plus heads, 48Idas, w/o the freeway flier and dot slicks permanently attached and ready for battle.
Should be fun!!! _________________ Frank Ochoa said; "I still have my convertible bug from high school. Now that Gramps is out Im going to make some changes but Im still going to keep it Cal-Style, you know, all original but lowered with some alloys"

One of my co workers spotted his neighbor pull this out of a garage this week. The car`s name is "Sixty nine`r" spelled out on each door with a mural on the front hood and something on the rear lid. Ill get better photos. After talking to the owner he found out It last rolled around in 89 and stashed away since. Can`t wait to go see this one.
Found in Compton Ca.

The lowrider guys from my neighborhood never crossed over into bugs at least from my generation. My younger brothers generation drove everything from lowriders to bugs to Broncos. During the 80s you had to go even further south from my neighborhood to see those with the murals, Im thinking 77st and beyond. _________________ Frank Ochoa said; "I still have my convertible bug from high school. I read a little background recently on all those bugs in the movie. Its in the 80s/90s custom thread and written by SKIM. Ill have to go find it and cut and paste it over here. Those bugs were owned by an L.A. carclub and provided for the movie... Thats a hot pic. !!! _________________ Frank Ochoa said; "I still have my convertible bug from high school. I cut and paste the info from another thread on those bugs from the movie Boyz in the Hood. Here it is:
[b]Quote SKIM;No the ones from the movie belonged to a club called Volkomen Straase LA chapter, in the mid 80s they had an orange county chapter and south central had the LA chapter who cruised Crenshaw blvd and the street races at terminal island. Alot of them lived in that area and and inglewood, mostly west LA - They were really active including helping host the old school california volkswagen jamborees, organizing and arranging parking back when Al Martinez was running it. All I know is they had some fast ass bugs._________________
Everyone has heard of Crenshaw Blvd but Terminal Island might not be as familiar. It was a ghetto ass 1/4 mile track called Brotherhood Raceway and some of the fastest cars around L.A. at the time (90s)were always there. It was smack dab underneath the middle of the bridge that connects LongBeach to SanPedro. Crenshaw and Terminal Island were scenes way different than ours but I was there to see my idol Ben Alameda dominate everything and my neighbors Todd and Arron mix it up with there fast bugs. It was fun and of course sad when it closed down. I miss that place and everytime I go over that bridge I swear I still see the concrete center barriers laying around. Good 90s memories out of that place... _________________ Frank Ochoa said; "I still have my convertible bug from high school. Here are a few High School fliers from where I graduated from in `86. This school is located in Highland Park Ca. You can see a bunch of the crews that use to roll back then.. Today Nada just boring students & staffs I guess If you walked around the parking lots of the school`s back then you would see slammed vw`s and mini trucks all over with the 80`s style and look.
On the 1st flyer`s you see the name Ricky Avila. A really cool guy who has since passed on.

THose ^^^ are hella hella tight right there!!!
L.A. and SGV which together made the scene, a couple of new names also Heaven (badass), KDAY or 1580 KDAY as it was known (badass), and I would have loved to have met one of those Kin-Key Kuties. Nice Stuff CRG...
Hey CRG you know why they are boring students and staff nowadays. Because if they were to pull the kind of shit we got away with back then they would be charged with some sort of Terrorist act. What is up with all these students getting laid by there hot female teachers and squealing. We had a hot one who was smoking weed with us and banging us and we never said a goddam word. Guess who I saw walking up her door as I was leaving once, one of the school NARCS also coming to have some fun. What do some of these people know, I had a drafting teacher in high school who would let a few us go get some food for the rest of his class and even let us take his car to go n get it! On our year book there was a picture of him on the phone with a caption that read "I`ll take two pizzas to go". Teachers back then were your friends. The Panthers Class of `86 _________________ CRG

During the early to mid 80s there were stoners everywhere. I would stay at one of my older brothers house when I got kicked out of Roosevelt and sent to HuntPark HS. My brother lived across from WestSide Park and I was cool with the westside stoners and everyone it seemed was smoking weed there. One day this super hot chick started school and naturally as any pimp would do I hit her up to party. About a week later I brought her over and pulled out my stash. Her tone and her look immediately changed when all I broke out with was a nickel and she started to sweat me to pull out all of my stash. Being the mocoso that I was pulled out some condoms instead and now she was really pissed. I caught on pretty quick as to what was going on (fake student/narc sting) when she abruptly got up and says to me I better not hear a word of what just happened here. Its cool, at that point I knew she couldnt break her cover over some mocoso and his nickel bag and a condom so on the way out I spanked that Fat Fuckin Ass on the way out so hard and I knew there was nothing she could do about it. When i would run into her at school for probably only a few weeks later she would always give me this evil stare like I cant believe I wasted my time with your stupid ass. ... Ahh, that ass was nice though..Good times _________________ Frank Ochoa said; "I still have my convertible bug from high school. LOL! Awesome , We had a teacher who told this one student (sexy chic) why she always wore jeans to school and never a dress? That day we made a bet that if she came to class wearing a dress he would have to give her ten bucks! The teacher agrees. The next day she walks into class wearing a dress and were all laughing. She goes on to ask for her ten dollars and the teacher pulls out a ten spot and hands it to her. Soon as he paid up the LAPD walks into the class. She was an undercover looking for a bust but nothing panned out so this was her way of moving to another school. Nobody was laughing when they took him away except me.. Of course. _________________ CRG
