Had to return my old seat covers since they were too "orange". While ordering new ones I decided to gamble and try out the TMI door panels so everything matched. They started making the 56/57 panels and I have to say, they did a really great job.
When you get them they are bare, no chrome trim, armwrest, etc.
Here's some quick pics of me fitting up the chrome trim. I made a transferrable template using blue tape on the old one then I simply taped it to the new one. I used a small drill bit and drilled very slowly until I felt it break the hardboard and not penetrate the vinyl. From there I used a needle and an awe to push through.
Old panel, marking holes
New panel, just moved the tape. The new panels do have holes but they are all in the wrong location, no worries for us vw guys, we figure stuff out
1 panel done, 3 to go!

Schwinging indeed!
3 outta 4 panels installed. This took some patience and plenty of fiddling, like everything else. Also, an older update, got the original 101 installed! Thanks again Doug loving it!
Still working on the ashtray, I ran into some trouble here. The clip/retainer is loose and wants to fall behind the panel, in fact it did after I had the panel installed perfectly. Any advice please let me know, I think I am doing something wrong here.
You can still see Kroil seeping out of the hinge. I had to soak it for weeks so I could remove the old homemade door pin.

Sweet!!!!! That's all I got to say. This is my favorite build. Be proud of your work Shwing. I've seen pro jobs that don't come close to this.
Cheers

You guys should see it in person, plenty of flaws! My wife has a really nice camera
Thank you though I sincerely appreciate the input.
Simple transport is now on the calendar, I am planning on attending. I have never been there before.
Hopefully I can get those seat covers fitted soon. Got all of the padding on the frames. _________________ My '57 build:

Leftcoast thanks man. Made some progress on interior-
Panels installed, door and window cranks, fabricated back seat cardboard and refinished luggage rails. Seat padding and covers installed, mostly. Still some detail work on the front seat covers and also the rear seat bottom. Went to my first G2G this weekend, so far mechanically no known issues.

| Photo thru the oval really shows a job well done with the improvised seat back. Nobody except somebody really into VWs is going to know & nobody should even care - it looks absolutely fanatastic. - Well done (again)! |

Guys I really appreciate all of the kind words. Very rewarding to get to the end of a project, really changed how I look at cars in general and I've learned so much, mistakes and all.
Took the fam out to a local cruise night. Hangin with some American Iron. The GTO guys were admiring the engine haha.

Great work on the first show. I always like to think when I'm in the mix of old cars, it's the vw community that really makes aircooled so special. _________________
