Isn't it best to contact the State of Ohio for your specific question of which plates you can use in Ohio Wink

so what is the coincidence? if you turned the fan on, the license plate would be air cooled too? your house was built in 1600?
i guess i am missing the license plate -to- VW relationship here.

They made VW's after 1967 (I know, huh...) and they made these things called Type III's and Beetles (not just the rolling toasters so many of the sheep have come to covet) and many of these VW's came with a fairly popular 1600cc (actually 1585) Engine.

Are you referring to they of them who are over there?

BMW also made a 1600. so did Fiat, Datsun, and I'm sure a lot of other car companies did too. if the plate had "VW" instead of an "X" i would get it. otherwise it's just a generic plate that happens to have one size of a VW engine on it. i see way more "coincidental" plates while i am just driving around town. i guess i should start taking pics of all the license plates that have a 25, 36, 40, 15, 1500, 1200, 1192, etc on them?
to be more site appropriate, the plate should really read "X 2". Wink

A little red contact paper would turn that X into the VW symbol pretty easy.

the coincidence to me is that my 1968 beetle came with a 1600 cc engine, and now it has a larger displacement engine it. so, X 1600 becomes "ex 1600". I apologize if this was too puzzling. As always, I appreciate the wonderful feedback received here on theSamba!

Depends on how it's registered....

I got it right off. But I doubt that the DMV will let you run that on your Beetle unless you show up with a bed and a stove in it.

Are you stating fact or your opinion? Being that you're in CA I would be surprised if you knew intimate details of OH V&T Laws such as whether this plate could be legally registered to the OP's Beetle. Laws vary wildly from state to state. What's perfectly legal in one state will get you arrested in another. Please back up your statement with facts.

To the OP:
If the person at the desk doesn't know the answer, ask for a supervisor or ask for a phone number to call someone who does know the answer. Asking a DMV related question on an internet forum is near pointless because the V&T laws in Ohio are specific to Ohio, someone from another state may think they're being helpful bestowing their "knowledge" on you in regards to your question but chances are they're dead wrong. My point being that for example here in NY state you could legally register that plate to your Beetle as long as your Beetle is a '68 model year. Ohio may allow you to register it as well, but they may not. You need to find out the laws for your specific state instead of asking this question on a worldwide internet forum.
