|
Hello All,
I ran across a guy that says he has a complete 68 bug transaxle for sale. But he says it's a 5 lug. I have a 64 that I am restoring and I need a better tranny to push my 1641cc. Did eary 68's have a 5 lug SwingAxle?? |

Thing drums are noticeably wider than type 1's. You'll know the difference.
I would bet they are just 5 lug type 1 drums with washers between the castle nut and drum nose. _________________ Westküste

My early 68 swing axle came with 5 lugs. PO probably did that though. He was trying to back date it. _________________ If everything is under control you're not going fast enough.

One way to tell if it would be a 68' trans would be the z bar mount on the axle tubes. _________________ Westküste

| Its probably a '67 if it has the z-bar mounts and five lug drums. The gearing of the later trans would match up to a 1641 better, 4.125 vs 4.375:1. |
