Thanks,
I wanted larger rear wheels, but....these are what I had, so I'm going to use them.
There pretty beefy, just not circus clown size.
As far as color.... I wanted to really stay away from ALL Black even from the beginning... I need to do my own thing ya know.
I wanted to use 50 Ford Crestliner side stainless steel, but I didnt have the heart to chop up such rare parts.
How about opinions on adding the side trim, to cover the paint line.
Yes or no....
Im thinking the 1/2 flexable chrome side molding then scuffed dull.
Im going to try a thin silver pinstripe first to see how it looks.

| COOL, I like your paint scheme. That thin chrome strip your thinking about would look nice, I wonder what it would look like if you continued it along the hood curve to the front just behind the front lights? Where's the Horn by the way? |

The Type 3 horn is currently hanging on a front cross body/fuel tank brace I added. I had to raise the tank about 1 inch in the front due to the extended steering shaft angle.
Update.
Picked up some double sided plastic chrome, and hope to ad it to the paint line... if the weather holds this weekend.
I hope to pick up a new clutch disc tommorow at "The German Invasion".
I ran into a little snag, so some more body work is being done. No big deal, I should still be on schedule. _________________ aka Ken

Picked up a better clutch disc Saturday at "The German Invasion"
We'll see how it goes...
Made glass templates, marked the windshield to cut. All dropped off at the glass shop.
Corrected an issues with the body Saturday and Sunday.
I didnt work on it too much this weekend.
I did add the chrome strip to the paint line..... It looks so much better.
All I need is the glass and a good weekend to straighten and finish up a few things. Probably will take 2 weekends. _________________ aka Ken

I think a trim piece to blend the paint line would look pretty good and give a suggested reason for the two-tone. [/b] |

Done... Last weekend. Looks much better.
Well... Good day to start... turned to crap after noon.
Went to pick up the glass. Laura (Dallas Glass and Paint) was deep into sanding and cleaning up the edges, so technically not done, but would be by noon..
I asked "how'd the windshield go"... ..
She said she didnt do it yet... Was a little nervous, about it being old, but the curve didnt seem to bother her. I told her "If it breaks no big deal... Ill move on to plastic" . Shen then grabbed it said "Well hell, lets get it done." A true art to watch her hand cut the glass, then lay in the Alcohol, and light it up. After a few minutes the nerves were settled and a damn perfect cut down windshield was done...
Thats why you use local people with years of experience.
Made it home with all glass in tact..
That was the good.. Now for the crap..
Started to finish the glue in material I have for the make up headliner. I picked up 2 new 3m spray glue cans. After a few squirts of one new can I soon realized I had a can of a crap batch. No solvent, very little, glue, lots of oil.
Same for the second can... Well shit!
No problem Ill return them and pick up a new can or 2.
Moved on to the clutch...
FOR THE RECORD!!!!!
A Cushloc disc will not clear the center of a Corvair/VW flywheel. The center rivots hit the crank bolts before the friction surface. Son ova...B.
Tried my "unidentified" pressure plate, after the second engine pull... It seems a little stronger.. but it still looks like Im gonna have to up the anty and buy a Stage 1 pressure plate.
Tommorow will hopefully bring a better day. _________________ aka Ken

Yeah I HAD to run them forward. That was one thing thet was always planned in the build. Initial plan was to run the exhaust all the way to the A pillar, but 2 things came into play. #1 this thing is loud so all that noise would be under the car, (so that means inside the car), #2, ground clearence, from the flat floor. Its still possible, but so far I'm liking where they are now. I had planned Caddy tips, but I found some nice cast aluminum Pontiac big mouth tips I had stashed that sound better. Yet to install them...

Man that sucks, you'd never know it by your pictures there was ever a problem. Its a beauty!
As far as a ride...that makes 2 of us. Ive only been up the road less than 1/4 a mile.. So its only testing. It pulls hard. Im pretty impressed so far. Sounds and feels so weird to have a split manifold 6 cylinder sound from a Beetle...
4/29/12
Long hot day.
Started by running to pick up some new glue to replace the crap batch I got..
Finished my quickie headliner. I did it mainly to cover up the welds. It turned out ok for now.
The windshield, the vent wings, and the door glass fit like a glove...
Thw windshield actually fit fantastic. It couldnt be any better.
The rear quarters and rear window....s not quite as lucky. I'm batting 500 I guess.
The quarters were a little too big, and the split windows were too small.
They head back to the glass shop tommorow. Should be ready by next weekend.
Installed and sealed up the firewall, then started to work on the plans for the "Kustom" wiring. I added 2 extra 28-31 Ford tail lights next to the license plate. Looks like a motorcylcle light bar now. They are actually brighter than the 37 Ford tail lights that Im using on the body. Doesnt hurt to have a couple extra Stop Lights..right.
If all goes well should be on the road pretty soon .. Nothing like cutting it close. I hope the cluth holds up, as I may not have the time to swap it out before the 19th... _________________ aka Ken

How many pieces of broken glass does it take to make a chop top complete?
2 so far.... for me..
One of the rear windows, as it was slick and it poped out of the opening as I was trying to slide it in. Fumbled it and when I caught it, and the edge hit wrong... smash... Looks pretty cool though. Too bad they are a little to big or I'd just use it. Looks like for the time the rear window will be plastic. No big deal.... I can cut and sand it to fit just right, use it, then get the glass adjusted and fit later.
The right window roller........well it dropped in the door when I was trying to reinstall it. Slight crack below the sight...Whew.....until I went for a nice drive today. Heat and a little vibration made the crack travel on up. That crack I want fixed.
One of the rear quater windows for some reason wasnt even close to my pattern, so back to the glass shop tommorow to have another cut, and pick up some plastic for the rear.
Yes you read right....After finishing cleaning up up the wiring....lights, horn, generator, tach, etc......done.... A drive.... a nice 5 or more mile drive. No real big issues. Played with the timing a little until it was running just right. Runs out pretty strong. Drives pretty darn good. You can feel the extra weight in the rear and the length for sure. The clutch.... is currently living on the ragged edge. Slips sometimes, holds sometimes.
The transaxle input shaft seal started to leak, I kinda knew it was about to pop, Ill address it when I slide the Kennedy pressure plate in.
I'm sort of short (5' 7") and still have to hunch over a little to drive it... and the back window.....no wonder Volkswagen upgraded the split window...cant see a damn thing.....but its still the best looking window in my opinion. I now have THAT (the split window) out of my system.. Ill stick to 58-64 as the perfect size windows.
It got a few thumbs up and several "What the HELL is that?" looks...
Love it... I must have done something right...
Plans were to drive it to work a few days this week. Ill still try to do that with or without the glass finished. I want some seat time, but I need to fix the trans leak first. I'll see if I can get it together one night. Im currently waiting on the clutch collar kit...that was left out of my Kennedy presssure plate I bought. Freakin mail order Ebay B.S.
Sorry guys and gals.... no pics. I'm holdin on to those for now.
