Got it home finally - did a bit of scrubbing and it's looking like a project now! The gelcoat is still in good condition and none of the POs have done anything stupid to it! I have a 914 gauge cluster for it and I'm thinking about 914 seats as well. My son and his friend are tearing down an engine to send to Morris Racing Engines for machine work - I'm thinking a 74x94 mild cam and dual 40IDFs. I'm going to do a diamond plate steel floor (pans are gone) and I'm digging the wheels with the stock centers. VW hubcaps will look very 1970! The hard top will be made removable - I live in the Pacific North Wet after all. I think that a couple dzus fasteners will do the trick nicely.
Fairly certain it's a Fiberfab Clodhopper...

Good to see another PNW buggy project. I can count on my fingers the number of times I have been in my buggy and seen another going down the road at the same time up here in the last 10 years. The fingers of one hand would be filled up with sightings from coming and going to car shows!
Springmeet is in a few weeks. Hope you guys make it across the pond for some tire kicking. |

The body looks like a Clodhopper, but the hood should have a ridge down the middle and a small verticle rectange on the front for the FiberFab emblem. Does it have the textured interior walls? Nice score with the original (saveable) gel coat. Tom _________________ Manxter #16, 1962 Manx & Kick-Out SS #16 (WIP)

The hood has me stumped too, but it has the textured interior and the 2 rectangular battery boxes molded in back.
Not that it matters, it's still a good looking body. and the glass is nice and thick!
Should be at the pnw spring meet, my son wants to bring his super - if for no other reason but to just to piss off the 66 and under crowd !!!! |

If it is the Super in your icon it appears to be nuthin' to be ashamed of. Nice looking car. They drive well too...I had a 72 for a long time.
If it's not pouring I'll be at Springmeet. Purple Sears Rascal with wide-5s and stock hubcaps. Stop by and say hi, always want to get to know the few others up here brave enough to run a car without a heater. |

Got a "free" engine... Had the boys tear it down. As you might expect, it was toast. Spun bearing took out the #2 main sadle... Oh well got sheet metal and other goodies to sell...
Got a lead on a guy that has a pair of 1600 dp though, should be able to get them for next to nothing. Worse thing that can happen is I have more magnesium to send to the recycler! |
