Anyone know of a place that can balance the 5 lug wheels in the northern Virginia area? I found a shop with an adapter a few years back but I need another. Anyone know of any? Anyone have an adapter I can buy, borrow?

Please private message me if you can help.

http://mainelycustombydesign.com/wheels_suspension.html

money well spent in my opinion. search this forum for DIY ideas using "wheel balancer" in the search box. the down side of the above link/item is that its aluminum and i have to remind the shop monkeys to go easy on the threads.

You don't need that balancing plate-you can use an old drum just clean it out and have them put it on the machine and spin it up and balance the drum then attach your wheels to the drum and balance those.

There are these as well..

I have the Mainlycustom's adaptor, it was a nice product.

I couldnt find anyone willing to muck with turning down a old brake drum, or smart enough to balence a drum (seems the local tire shops have 17yr olds who dont give a shi* about anything working there).
So I bought the Mainley customs adaptor, got the oil dipstick temp guage too pricey but nice products.

Also, I had a local VW shop in Ashland advise me about wide 5 rims, some will be hard to impossible to balence due to being out of round or bent, may be hard to notice spinning but the balencer will see it.
When I had my chrome wide 5's balenced I had 2 that were pretty much impossible to get right. seems the wheels had a slight distortion, well at 55 to 60 you REALLY felt it.

So, you may and may not get your wide 5's balenced exactly right, AND
this may only apply to certain wide 5's, Mine came with Chrome Brazille made wide 5's, the NOS VW ones may be tougher.

Just so you're aware in case you have issues after balencing.
Now I dont know if this is a usual issue but the fella I spoke withs been in the biz for quite a while and he was correct a out of round or bent rim was my problem, had to replace them.

jus so ya know,
good luck bro!
