I have been looking for a DR bumper end for the van for some time. Everytime I come across a used one it is more than the ones at BD.

http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=251807124A

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=527295

I did find these but with shipping it is only a few more $ for the new from BD.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1279523

Im confused.

If you want to save the most money.. get the used ones and have him ship them parcel post.. probably your best bet.

Gowesty carries bumper ends for 10.95.
I just ordered one myself.

Just order them along with a bunch of other spendy stuff from BD - by comparison they'll seem almost free...???

FWIW: there are only 2 different pieces to fit the 4 corners...
(left front = right rear / right front = left rear)

Be careful what you order!

$8.95 really? Confused You're complaining about that and how long have you been looking?

I'm confused why we're even talking about it. That's one of the least expensive replacement parts I've ever seen. Order the new ones and be done. For that price, order four and they'll all match. Then sell your used ones for a profit. Wink

Thats my point. Im not complaining. Why are they so cheap? Are they crappy material, aftertmarket junk?

Why would someone sell them for $12, $16, or..... ???

Im just confused.

I will be ordering them from BD after I figure out everything that I need. I usually put together a springtime order so in the meantime I thought I would figure out the puzzle.

X2! What the F there cheap , get a new custom bumper, like the one on Samba now only $800, and you can weld it up yourself. Now don't the end caps sound cheap now! If you question that low of a price, you should just sell your van! It doesn't get any cheaper! Very Happy One part out of a thousand has to be cheap, or we will lose all hope for our vans.

You shouldn't be confused, it's the other sellers who are confused. They sometimes have no idea that the parts are available new. I see ads all the time on Cl where people are asking prices for used goods that are sometimes higher than new goods. When you point it out to them, they don't care. They're selling for less than what they paid three years ago for it new. Forget that the prices have dropped 50% in that time.

I finally just considered these bumper end caps to be a consumable item. If I lost one from a Braille parker, I installed two new ones. I always saved any banged up old ones. They could just be siliconed back on when a new one was later bonked off. But how did my junque drawer end up w/ five used "righties" and no "lefties"? You can buy 64 $10.95 end caps, or a pair of GoWe$ty bumpers. I went for bumpers, and it's nice to know the braille parkers don't do much damage anymore.

Prices....well its what people will pay. Do your homework. Many many vendors sell stainless steel trim rings for $60.00 and I found the company they all buy from and they sold them to me for $40.00. Same thing, same manufacturer, same box, the only difference is that its an extra $20.00 in my pocket.

Bumper end caps are just like the trim rings...some sell em for peanuts and others sell em for peanut shells Wink

You guys keep missing his question. He asked if the $9 endcap is the same quality as the $16 endcap (thickness, shape, oem look) . Anyone weigh in on this?

Yes, that was the point of the post in the begining. Thanks westfailed. It isnt that I cant afford the caps I just thought that there may be some difference in quality. Thanks RCB for the clarification.

Bryguth I did conact you this week and will look at the van this weekend and see what it needs. How are the insides? These usually get chewed up and the taps are ripped or the mounting hole is damaged. Can you send me a pic of the inside?

Thanks guys.

I would be leery of buying that one from BusDepot - they sold me a crappy aftermarket window crank which broke after I had used it only a few times.

BD refused to stand behind the product and engaged in a blame the victim type response.
