Agreed, you should get the box. Not so sure the price is out of line though, assuming NOS. Kind of looks like there are 2 scrape marks on the connector above the 917 sticker from the 2 "claws" of a push on connector as well as a "ring" around the top mount where it would hit the plastic mount tab of the dash.. Maybe not though, its not a real clear picture for details like that. |

depends. if i am feeling like a nice guy, i explain it to them. 9 out of 10 times they come around. if they are super arrogant and insist the car/part (whatever) is worth what they are asking, i ask how many people have looked at it. 90% of the time, the seller will say 'you're the first' and i tell them there is a reason for it.
i will also explain that for the same money, i could buy (whatever) and pay for shipping for a cleaner (whatever) from down south or out west. i usually make the seller feel pretty crappy by the time i'm done.

X2 !! Craigslist used to be a nice way to find deals. no everyone looks at each posting, finds the most expensive one like theres (or something they wish they had) and then add 10% of the asking price to their asking price, and say firm....retards. if Craigslist was a less popular site it would have more fair pricing... _________________ MINE - 1978 Westfalia ~ Maisy ~ FI, Hydraulic Valves, Electronic Points, 2.0 (NEED A SET OF HEADS, PM ME IF YOU HAVE A SET)

I have done this.. but never with success.
One of 2 things seems to happen:
1. Someone pays more than I offered
2. They never call and I find out they sold it to someone who showed up at random... for less money.
I did get a Bus this way though when the seller said he changed his mind about selling but was probably going to sell in 3-4 months for something else coming up in his life. I told him I would pay $XXXX and to call me when he was ready. I followed up a few weeks before that date just in case and we closed the deal. So a little bit different as it wasn't really for sale anymore. _________________ How to: Post Photos | Search

That's pretty much the conclusion I've come to as well. The same thing has happened with vintage guitars and amps.

So maybe the follow-up is the key then. The number 2 scenario is very annoying when it happens, maybe its best to stay on them and make sure they know the offer is still good. Really I guess there is no best strategy, I think time is the only thing that can put some sense into these people. |

Back to the whining, a seemingly reasonable if not slightly high price for a 71 deluxe, especially since it's got a hacked interior. But what struck me (other than the atrocious spelling) is how some of that "original paint", blah, blah, miss spell, blah, "original paint", blah, "original paint".... got on the decklid striker, hmmm........

Original on the exterior, and repainted in the compartment when the engine was out? Decent looking bus. Too bad they didnt pay attention to the paint details in the engine compartment. I wouldnt expect someone to shell out 13,000 for that lack of attention to details. |
Reading 128 pages of the Whine thread… Seemed like a good idea at the time, and turns out to be a great idea now. I literally drove this bus YESTERDAY morning. Not original paint, funky interior, but it drove nice. I've felt better and worse driving busses, but that one was a tiny bit of a giant let down.
@BusDaddy and others I didn't recognize, I actually had a noob thread about this bus a few weeks ago.

I recently bought a 68 Westy for less than one third of that price, and it's mostly complete. _________________

Ha saw that too! I've been looking for one for 6 months and found four that walked away before I could claim them. Not one was over $18 nor destroyed by hot climate! Finally found one for $15 w/shipping. _________________ Erik

I have had quite anumber of Westfalia campers from the USA, mostly from California, but a few from Washinton, and every one of the Campmobile interior has either had the filler tube missing or it fell apart when you moved the water tank.
So when these filler tubes come up for sale there are lots of people that want them, nobody has to pay the sticker price, and my feedback speaks for itself, many happy people have been happy to buy from me,.
Violated what a joke
And the price was in GBP not U.S Dollars.
thanks for checking my adverts out |

No where in the ad does it state what currency is accepted.
Just because you are from a specific locale,it does not mean much by way of $ on the internet.
Oh, Wait! It's coming to me........
Ahh,yes. 45GBP = $72 USD _________________ '69 SC under resto
