Maybe. Fill me in on what you know. I was just making sure all my tin was modified for a close fit, and making sure all air gaps in my cutouts were sealed. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss |

OK, I read the whole post. I didn't see anything on the guy losing his engine. As far as his tests go, he doesn't say what his head temp is, just the differences between cylinders. At the most, I think he said a 50 degree difference between the 1-2 bank and the 3-4 bank. That disparity isn't even worth chasing. I have a Yamaha XS650 that has a 45 degree difference between left and right cylinders, Doesn't hurt anything. Yamaha engineers new this, didn't bother with it. Why? Because it just doesn't matter. The guy is also dealing with a highbred engine and running fuel injection, not a type 1,2 block like I am. I have cool tins on mine too, something he was beginning to experiment with.
KCW just finished a low light ghia for a customer last year. Big block type 1 with the same setup. Owner has taken it to Denver, Moab, and several other long hauls; plus drives it daily in Grand Junction. No indication of any problems. Just had it in the shop for a tune-up this past week, a 6000 mile check up so to speak.
I think if you pay attention to carb jetting and don't go to lean, keep the compression around 9 : 1, that you can't burn up a VW engine. That being said, am I going to do my due diligence and monitor the hell out of this engine? You betcha!
As far as the floors go. I do have belly pans already. I'm thinking I'll put some metal in the cargo floors too. Then some wood over that. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss |

Well Ben, I did it.... 1 more Scott Hall project to get finished by a new owner.
What should I do first???
Did you put it all together then take it apart to paint it? OR did you paint it and go from there?

Hi Mark, I stripped mine down, did all the rust repair, then body worked and painted the shell. Reassembled the shell, just have to body work all the removeables and paint now. If I had the bucks for a clutch and ignition, I could have it running.
Congrats on your purchase. Lets see a thread started soon. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss |

It has been some time since my last post. I was working on a friends SC for the last few months. Finally got that out of the way.
Today, I put in the bay window gas tank. Messaged the middle to fit the tranny hump, then made som extender straps. After I finished that I installed my engine. Had some interference with the throttle bar and the tank seam, so bent those down some and now I'm golden. Wouldn't of had this problem with standard tin, but because of the Bergman unit the carbs have to mount with throttle bar to the rear.
Tomarrow I will get the exhaust going. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss |

| Beautiful job denting the bay tank. Aren't you concerned about the oil filter in harms way? A hit there and you won't be driving home. |

Oil filter is actually above the sump by two inches. Plus the exhaust will provide some deflection. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss |

| I've run those filters on every Vw I've owned. They are not in harms way. I do like to make a heat shield for them though.us |

I think it's about 14-16 gallons. There were different bay window tanks and I don't know witch one I have. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss |

Engine is running. Took the bus up and down the street today. Other than a reverse lockout problem, everything is working great. Need to get busy with bodyworking the doors.
