Installed new front bearings, rotors, and pads last night. Added to the new flex lines and last year's rear brake rebuild, I am a stoppin' fool.
The lack of motivation regarding interior and body work has really motivated me to get everything else in order. Pretty soon I'll have no choice. _________________ Joe T.

I finally figured out why none of my idiots lights or gauges were working - they were no longer grounded due to a really small break between the grounds (pin 2 and 5) on the 14-pin male connector for the intrument cluster. I did this to fix it, and it worked great:
| crazyvwvanman wrote: |
The way I would deal with the cluster grounds on 80-84 is to cut both brown wires about 3" from the edge connector. Tie the two short 3" ends together and extend them with a thicker wire to a screw that attaches to the body. Then attach the other 2 long ends to just each other. Done.
There are other ways people might be tempted to do this but danger lurks!

I also put in a new grease cap and speedo cable, so the speedo and odometer now work for the first time in years. I put on a new OEM antenna, and fixed a broken muffler support bracket. _________________ 1984 Westfalia - Ford Cologne 2.8L conversion

Nothing to exciting but since I got new Hankooks last week I thought Madam Helga would like a new set of stainless trim rings and a new set of hub's. |

Thanks! As for the lower portion it reads 2.3 Turbo. I had to pull the badge from a Saab 900s for the 2.3 and a Volvo 850 for the turbo... They are the same font.
I'm cleaning a Volvo B230FT 2.3l turbo Inline 4 as we speak Going to have to fab everything. Have a Saab APC piggyback electronic knock based setup going into the mix. Projecting mid 200's for the base tune. I'm from the Nissan sports camp... all this is new to me, the engine and van, but it's going to be awesome. _________________ -Lloyd |

For some reason I knew that's what you meant... but I didn't think so because that's how mine came. It's the sheet metal with the bumper assembly removed. I got her in december and she looked like that (minus rust removal and paint) with a welded on tow bar for a bumper.
I've never seen her other then naked back there. Are they not all like that? Perhaps an add on for GL's with fiberglass bumpers. She's an '88 GL 7-pass. _________________ -Lloyd

mmm now I don't know. Can't remember how my 84 Westy GL Wolfsburg looked. My Vanagon L doesn't look like that nor do I recall ever seeing it. But I have limited exposure. _________________ 83.5 Vanagon L Riviera Model with 97 1.9L TD AAZ 4 speed Daily Driver 3 out of 4 seasons (for sale)

Ironically even though mine was jacked up, it's one of my favorite lines on the body, right up there with the tops of the front wheel arches!
Thanks for the photo Timwhy! _________________ -Lloyd |

Finished installation of Fanchers poptop insulation kit, kit looks great and included great instructions and all parts needed. Very happy with this purchase, good quality. Testing it first weekend of May in Yosemite.
Finally mounted my 135w Kyocera solar panel to my poptop Yakima rack crossbars using SS U bolts and their backing plates. Solid. I was tired of carrying that big panel inside while on the road. _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD
