Hello I just bought a 1970 vw bus with no motor. I have a 1800 motor engine code ED that came out of a 1975 bus which has been converted to carbs. My question is will this 1800 motor work in a 1970 bus

A couple different ways to do it.Since the bell housing on the 70 will
not accomodate the 210mm flywheel and you need to change the
mustache bar and fab the mounts for it too.

But it is doable but why do it when you can have as much power
from an upright engine?

Maybe you should post this in the Bay Window forum.
also do some searching here for conversion parts.

1971-1979 have ears on the bell housing for extra support of the
weight. so,more $$$ for the transmission too.

It's going to take a bit of work to get that job done. Either a lot cutting and chopping or going to a DTM fan shroud.

I agree with others build yourself a 1776 (or other) Type 1 engine and get on the road.

Even more $ for the DTM cooling kit unless you are prepared to irreversibly hack the body metal surrounding the engine, I agree with Old DKP, a well built type 1 can do nearly everything the ED can but do with easy bolt in installation.
