hmm, let's review:
-the past status of the car (being sold to someone in Ohio) had been posted numerous times by the previous owner.
-the person who says they currently own it joined the samba TODAY.
-anyone with half an imagination could make up a story about how they bought the car on ebay and brought it back home, etc, etc, etc.
-anyone with any kind of remotely modern technology, at the very least, could have posted at least one crappy cell phone pic of the car by now. my 6 year old phone still works fine sending pics.

call me a pessimist, but until there are new, current pics (heck, pretend you are a terrorist and include a copy of today's newspaper in the pic too), i claim hoax, and this is all just one big Rebecca Beste-ian type story.
i will rejoice once proven wrong.

Good points. However,

1. Big Al is the man i emailed directly off the ebay user name that Weavervwsales sold the bug to, who bought it from a member here on the samba.

2. He joined today so he could comment directly instead of through me.

We will just have to see.... Pray
there was a guy on here a while back letting people know he would sell it, you just had to PM him, forget who it was exactly but they didnt want that much for it, cant find the email they sent me but it was only a couple years ago so wonder who that was, friend of his anyway

very cool topic

P.S. If you want some actual fur from Snorkelstang, I will snag a piece for you before it ships!

Now that would be hilarious. I could pulp it up for an interior covering.

My buddy that stored the car for the past 10 years, literally got a notice from the city a couple of weeks after the car was rediscovered that said he had 30 days to move it! Perfect timing.

So to you it was just a piece of crap parts car with no axle before it got rediscovered?! I think perfect timing is the understatement of the year.

I'm hearing alot of talk about fixing it up and making it what it was. But I'm not hearing alot about saving the patina and keeping it OG. What is the plan with paint and bodywork? That kind of kustom bodywork and paint will seriously cut into you profits when you decide it is time to cash in.

Good luck with whatever you end up doing with it.

I'm heading up the resurrection/restoration and the plan is to preserve most everything, but fix the big issues and replace missing stuff...and hopefully...hopefully make it run again.

But this can't start until the car arrives...so please
everybody ask around, pull together and lets find a suitable hauler for the cross country Snorkelstang parade!

I never saw it at just a piece of crap parts car. I thought it was radical and unique and justified the purchase to my wonderful wife of 29 (20 at the time of purchase) years, by telling her I could use parts of it.

Tell me none of you have ever committed that crime?

I'm not sure about patina as I always associated that word with metal? Should we make up a variant called bondina?

B O N D I N A ! Has a nice ring to it.

I think we all agree it should be as close to OG Snorkelstang as possible.

My son said someone stopped by and said they had a magazine that showed Snorkelstang during the glory days!

Sure would be cool to get those pages posted on the forum!

Having you been asking for this since day one? and it still hasn't happened? I don’t wanna sound cynical, but when we buy cars from other parts of the country we normally pay for that service out of our own pocket, maybe is time for Al or perhaps yourself to find a hauler and pay for the transport, I don’t think anyone else is going to come through with this, I'm just saying because by now if someone wanted to get involved with the transport the car would be in your shop.
Having too many cooks in the kitchen never works, and that's probably why it hasn't gotten done yet, at the end of the day Al and you have the most to gain out of this.

I was thinking at first that Snorkel was an 80's custom, but now Im thinking Cheech and Chong 70's. I think all their cars had fur inside.

If I had to guess at the time of building, I would say it's from the late 70's or very early 80's.

BigAl and I are happy to pay for the service if need be. We just need to get it done and hopefully done by someone that is willing to play along with the fun factor of it and shoot photos of Snorkelstang around roadside attractions and state line crossings and post them online. Maybe people can catch a glimpse as it comes across the country...

If it just goes in some commercial carrier's truck and slips across un-seen...no fun in that!

I read on here that this car is over 7ft tall. Was that on the trailer or off the trailer? I have it on good authority that if it is really that tall you could expect to pay extra if it goes on a traditional hauler. Thats going to be a big one in the debit column.

Maybe that's just an avenue you and Al are gonna have to explore, because if it was to happen the way you describe it, (which I think is nice and dandy) it would've happened already. I mean you’ve only been asking for this since the middle of February and it hasn’t happened yet, The classic is only 2 months away and by the time you guys assemble this team of fun loving transporters taking pictures at rest stops and posting here , you're gonna end up with a about 2 weeks to a month time to get this car ready for the show. I’m just being realistic here.
