I had to pay for two spots on a trasporter truck once, because my pick up had hoops on it, 7 feet 3 inches, I was over their limit by 3 inches. _________________

for that matter I would've asked to have the hoops removed all together, but I didnt have a problem paying the two spots, the two spots in the truck quote is what I was expecting to pay from day one, so it evened out at thend, but that's not what we're talking about, I was we're merely pointing out that from personal experience anything over 7 feet you pay more. _________________

none of this is going to be cheap. it might make more sense for someone to rent a trailer and run it out there. _________________ ﻥ ﺥﻡ‎

there should literally be a cross country cruise with hundreds of VWs.... At least in my mind there is. Although I think it would be a pilgrimage versus a cruise. |

It's a mustang not the spaceshuttle. I like to get free stuff just as much as the next guy. To ship a mustang across the country to have a VW guy get it running just doesn't make a bunch of sense to me.
Al what does you wife think about Snorkelstang now that it is akin to a lost Megamillions ticket?
I thought I saw a picture of the matching rear wheels found inside. Whats the excuse for bringing it to it's first show with mismatched wheels?
Randy it sounds like Al has the storage yard all lined up for the next 10 years. LOL. _________________

Yeah, but He just got around to opening one of the doors and found those wheels inside the car last week. _________________

True but some haulers won't deal with non running cars.
You also need to consider the snorkel if it were to go on a regular big rig trailer. I could see that thing getting snapped off if it went on the lower level and the snorkel is the source of all of it's magical powers.
If it went up top it might go over the truck's height restriction.
It would probably need to go on one of fifth wheel car trailers that is pulled by a pickup truck. _________________ Chris |

1) I still haven't heard of a reputable car hauler will not take a non running car,
2) the reason you pay for two spots, is because they put the car on the bottom shelf and no car above yours, they literally have to use two spots for taller cars, top and bottom, that way they lift the ramp up above yours and give you all the clearence you need or viseverse _________________

I just wanted to say what a great time I had seeing Big Al again, and meeting his wife Gail- she really is being a good sport with all of Snorkie's new found fame
My favorite pic from the whole weekend (check out the ear to ear grin)
Let's not ruin this thread with a bunch of arguing, let's send only positive energy out there for the King of all VW Abortions, Snorkelstang!

I agree. Dont know why some people only want to bring down this whole thing with negativity. I enjoyed seeing this masterpiece. It will either happen, or it wont. Either way, now I have seen it in person. At this point, I wouldnt blame big Al if he put it away for another decade. I will still wear my snorkelstang shirt so people can look at me with a WFT? on their face. _________________ 57 Horizon Blue Oval

I was just about to say, remember when this car and everything about it was a fun joke? That was nice.
I mean, really, look at this thing. How can to take it so seriously? _________________ All he needed was a wheel in his hand and four on the road.

Nobody is really arguing here, we all love snorkelstang as much as the next guy, some of us have been big contributors of the abortion thread at one point or another, others jumped in the bandwagon when the car reappared, we understand its roll in the VW community, we're merely pointing out a few things tha thaven't been pointed out before and strategizing for the big move out west, since this is a joined venture between all the members of the samba and big Al and Randy _________________
