|
|
I have a 1964 beetle, the Front Bumper, Euro Style, Blade style is on the front, the brackets were bent so i purchased new ones, but when I put the on I noticed that the bolt holes where off about an inch, so I removed the brackets and bolted them to the bumper first, but when I tried to bolt them on the car, the brackets slid into the holes on the apren, but they are ankled so much I cant get the bolts on, is there a trick to this? I lookup the bumper says it fits all the way up tp 67.. thanks for any and all help.
thanks

Are the new bumper brackets new aftermarket or used originals? If they are aftermarket it sounds like the holes weren't drilled in the correct location. Did you compare the old and new brackets next to each other? Pictures would help.

| The brackets are exactly like the ones I removed, when I bolt them on they come out straight then when I go to bolt on the bumper the holes on the bumper seem to be to wide, or tto far apart, about an inch or so it looks like. I will measure the distance betwwen the bumper holes tonight. |

Do you have the 4 brackets (spacers) that are sandwhiched inbetween the bumper and the bumper brackets? _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

That might be your problem then. You need the 4 spacer brackets (theres 4 each for the front and rear bumpers), they align the bumper brackets within the bumper. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

are you refferring to the pieces that are on the actual bumper? where the bumper bolts go through? I have those, the bumper fits to the brackets, but after I attach the brackets to the bumper I have to squeeze it to fit in the apron holes on the front of the car, and that makes the bracket bend in, so it has trouble lining up to the holes for the brackets to atach to the car.

I'm referring to these:
Also, make sure your not using rear bumper brackets on the front. The front ones are shorter in length and curved differently than the rears. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

Are you sure the CAR is straight? My bug had been hit many years ago, and to get my fenders to fit "correctly" I had to do a bit of, um, "work" we'll call it |
