|
|
Hi,
Been lurking, soaking up info, for a while. Finally ready to buy my sand rail. This one is for sale down the street from me. The price is $3500, but the guy seems willing to go down. What can you tell me about this vehicle? I am not sure the engine size, but he says everything works, and it runs really good. Looks to be in pretty decent shape.
Here are some pics. Thanks!!!!
Any info would be helpful. Think it's worth offering $3000 for it? Also let me know what pertinent questions I should ask him.
Thanks a million!

Well it looks pretty "clean" meaning its probable cared for.... Frame looks to be a solid design...
Has King & Link pin front end and swing axle so its probably pre 67' parts....
Not really fond of beer kegs, but then again it only a style issue and if it appeals to you, that's ok...
Engine has dual ports heads so I would "guess" its probable at least 1600.....
I would probably go for it for $3000 if I took it for a spin and liked how it ran...

Agreed. If there are no major problems and it runs well, I would feel bad for spending $2500 to $3000. _________________ SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM |

i see tabs for a windshield and rear tail lights so was it street legal at one time? is there a title? not sure what your riding plans are but with the swing axle then you are limited on raising it.
ask if he still has the rear cage.
so it runs and doesn't smoke. check the end play on the engine (will be tough with the finger guard on) and stick with the 2500-3000 range.
welcome to the forum. |

| Whats the market like in your area? Everybody pumps up the price on seasonal toys when its there season. Pull the oil dip, whats the oil smell like? Good and clean? Too clean? What about the trans? Keep in mind there is no rear engine cage, and as such what is that skid plate bolted to? How many hits has that engine taken? How much crank play on the pully? 3000 May be ok, unless 3000 gives you options on 5 or 6the others. Sometimes the desire to buy overides the best price. |

Thats a short back frame so no rear carge for it, unless you build one. Never really understood why those frames are popular, no engine protection! Agreed, take it for a spin, look it over real close, and throw out a number on it |

overall looks clean
depending your plans on driving, you may need new tires.
looks like old Formula Desert Dogs on rear and Commandos up front. Gotta imagine they are dry splitting by now. could be wrong as no close up pics.
if so, figure that in the price negotiations.
I would be closer to $2000-2500 pending how she runs.
definitely would add to the value if has title |

Thanks everyone for the help. I will give him a call tomorrow and ask him some more questions. I think I'll offer him 2,500 assuming it runs and drives the way he says it does. I think the tires are showing a hint of dry rot. So that may be a deal killer, as I don't want to spend $3000 and then have to buy all new tires.
Ill keep you informed.
Thanks! |
