That is one of the most compleete finds Ive ever seen. Cant ask for more brother!

Amen. That's a really nice complete, unmolested car. It's the kind of car that Tram looks for. Wink The history really makes it special too. Some of that stuff I've never seen before (in the tourist packet). Very NICE score. Cool

Great story!

I can't wait for the next installment.

You should contact the TV networks and have somebody make this into a mini-series!

Well, to back up a bit and establish a time line, and according to the original invoice, the original begin build date on Henry and Elizabeths Squareback was 03.06.1971.

The maintenance log:

Shows a VW workshop delivery stamp of 06.07.1971, and the invoice shows it was delivered to him the day he arrived in Germany, two days later, 06.09.1971.

Whats interesting here is, the original invoice also shows a charge for $205.60 for two months of insurance while in Germany. The insurance contract shows the insurance started the day before he arrived for his car, 06.08.1971.

Boring you yet?

Also in the maintenance log, you see that by 06.16.1971, he and Elizabeth had already logged a whopping 1073 miles, and brought the Squareback in for its 1000 mile service.

By July 3rd, Elizabeth and Henry were ready to head home, having logged an astonishing 3,224 miles on the Squareback. They proceeded to the COMEXAS office, and filled out paperwork to ship the Squareback to its new home in Texas. They assigned the car (best I can tell) its own passport as well. Anyone know anything about those?

(sorry the pic is blurry)

Leaving their beloved Squareback in the port, Henry and Elizabeth flew home.

The "passport" is a tax and duty document.

Kirk you need to scan all that in. You have an increadable paper trail of what was possible from the factory. Especialy with the Tourister trip, options, all the og binders-fucking amazing!

This is the stuff people "say" happened in regards to their car. You have the og paperwork to prove it. Its just an amazing example.

That cars value is half imbeded in that paperwork. Cool very Cool

I've got things in this binder that I have absolutely no idea what they are. None. I need to scan it in I guess. I have to get a flat bed scanner first. My big scanner might tear some of these and I'd have a fit. Shocked

I'll see what I have (if anything) on it for you. I thought it was some home brewed thing until you guys said different.

Absolutely. I've "only" got the German title and both the service book and owners manual for my T-34. What you got makes what I have look like nothing. Very very cool. Applause That's the kind of stuff that seperates the haves from the have nots. And most of us have never seen any of that stuff before. Shocked

And yes Jason, I too feel bad for Tram, as that's the kind of stuff that's right up his alley (it doesn't hurt that it's a late model to him either, as he likes them Wink ).

Shut up, Jethro. Laughing

No, I'm loving this. Seeing this brings back memories of my grandparents with these cars. They used to joke about needing the trailer hitch to haul the paperwork. And yeah, I actually do like the late models just as much as the earlies. I'd have snapped that up in a heartbeat.

Actually Perugruen 69, Automatic, A/C, and sliding roof would have done it, yes. Or, if this had been a Kasanrot '72.
